Mess- und Regeltechniken waren immer schon von hoher Bedeutung in der Schwerindustrie. Hier zu sehen sind alte Thermo- und Manometer in der Gebläsehalle der Henrichshütte Hattingen, heute ein Museum.

Manchmal hat man wohl die berühmten Tomaten auf den Augen....
Bis heute Morgen hatte ich keine Idee zu diesem Thema. Doch bei der Zubereitung eines Espresso zum Frühstück kam der Gedankenblitz.
Die Maschine ist schon sehr alt; ich habe sie mir zu Beginn meines Studiums gekauft. Sie wird regelmäßig gewartet und ist immer noch in täglicher Benutzung.
Die Zeit hat jedoch ihre Spuren hinterlassen........
The Hansa coking plant is one of 17 central coking plants that were built in the Ruhr area in the 1920s. The task of the plant was to produce coke from coal, which is required for steel smelting. At the time, it was one of the largest and most modern coking plants in Europe.
Met een scherpe blik houdt meester Thomas König de wijzer van de aan het plafond van de loc gemonteerde manometer in de gaten. Zijn linker arm rust op de regulateur, daarmee regelt hij de hoeveelheid stoom naar de cilinders. De rechter hand bedient het ganghendel. De bel met een fraai geknoopt allemansend hangt binnen handbereik. Karakteristiek voor stoomtramlocomotieven is de zijstand waarbij de machinist naast de ketel staat. Hij heeft een goed zicht naar zowel vooruit op de baan als de naar de achterzijde van de trein. Aan de horizon gloort het plaatsje Birgden, daar zal in het stationnetje gerangeerd worden. Is de druk in de ketel nog voldoende om daar vlot te geraken?

Die Maschinen der alten Giesshalle der Henrichshütte in Hattingen stehen schon lange still, gearbeitet wird hier nicht mehr. Im Leben wechseln sich immer wieder Phasen der Ruhe mit Phasen höherer Aktivität ab, so soll es sein, der Wechsel der "Vita contemplativa" und der "Vita activa" wurde schon von den alten Mönchen in den klöstern gepflegt.

The change of "Vita contemplativa" and Vita Activa" was yet well-tended by the old monks in the monasteries.
The Zollern colliery in Dortmund is one of the most beautiful testimonies to Germany's industrial past. An icon of industrial culture made of steel and glass is the machine hall with the stained-glass Art Nouveau portal. Discover the "Palace of Labor", look behind the magnificent brick facades, climb the headframe, follow the coal path and immerse yourself in a world of hard work underground.
Zicht vanuit de klassieke stuurstand van motorwagen 52 die in 1903 door de American Car Company voor de Peninsular Railway gebouwd is. Deze houten interurban staat min of meer aan het begin van de ontwikkeling van de zware interlokale Amerikaanse tram. Op de voorgrond zien we de schakelkast van General Electric type K-28-J en de Westinghouse luchtremkraan M-18A met bijbehorende manometer.
Aan de andere zijde van het perron staat de eindontwikkeling van de oorspronkelijke interurban in de vorm van gelede bridge car 182 van het Key System. De Bethlehem Shipyard in Willington bouwde deze destijds revolutionair moderne treinstellen in 1937 voor de dienst over de nieuwe Bay Bridge tussen Oakland en San Francisco. Ook in dit geval waren Westinghouse en General Electric de leveranciers van de tractie-installatie.

In Blankenhain (Saxony, Germany) is on of the best open-air museum of agriculture and rural life I have seen so far. Throughout the town there are countless buildings where life is shown from before. Almost impossible to discover everything in a single day.

In Blankenhain (Sachsen) ist eines der schönsten und größten Museen zum Thema Landwirtschaft, die ich bis jetzt gesehen habe. Im gesamten Ort sind mehrere Gebäude verteilt, die man besichtigen kann und wo das Leben von früher gezeigt wird. Fast unmöglich alles an einem einzigen Tag zu entdecken.
