I went back to my original roots last weekend on a trip to Lincoln, NE with my parents, aged 84 and 86 who grew up on farms in the rural countryside many years ago. My brother and I were born in Lincoln but moved away in 1962 when we were very young. We went back on a regular basis while my grandparents were alive, but it had been many years since my last visit.
I guess I never appreciated the beauty of the landscape there when I was younger and thought the lifestyle was backward and so 'not cool' as a teenager. This time was different and I couldn't get enough of the magnificent colors, rolling hills, and wide expanses of the prairie. I literally stopped in the middle of the road to take this shot without a car in sight as far as one could see in either direction.
A BIG THANK YOU to my dear friend Tomkitty who offered to loan me one of her fabulous wide-angle lenses that made such a difference in the results of my shots!
Thanks also to Rentedochan for sharing his fine texture-

Wow.....I didn't think this had loaded.....I waited and waited & gave up!!!
Yesterday, during yet another day of snowing, I played around with textures
and tried to doctor my coyote that is not totally the best. The texture makes
a less-than-perfect image a lot more fun! Thanks to Roman Wilshanetsky
(Lost in the Hills) for first introducing me to textures, and to Peggy Collins
for helping me with this. She made the image pop! And Peggy, this is a
re-creation, just to make sure I could do the layer masking like yours.

Puffins from free PNG
I love Puffins, but not much chance of seeing them in Australia :-) These birds live most of their lives at sea, resting on the waves when not swimming. They are excellent swimmers that use their wings to stroke underwater with a flying motion. They steer with rudderlike webbed feet and can dive to depths of 200 feet, though they usually stay underwater for only 20 or 30 seconds. Puffins typically hunt small fish like herring or sand eels.
In the air, puffins are surprisingly fleet flyers. By flapping their wings up to 400 times per minute they can reach speeds of 55 miles an hour.

smoke photo manipulation -
In Greek mythology, Icarus is the son of the master Daedalus, a talented and remarkable Athenian craftsman who attempted to escape from his exile in the palace of Knossos, Crete, where he and his son were imprisoned at the hands of King Minos, the king for whom he had built the Labyrinth to imprison the Minotaur (half man, half bull). Daedalus, the superior craftsman, was exiled because he gave Minos' daughter, Ariadne, a clew (or ball of string) in order to help Theseus, the enemy of Minos, to survive the Labyrinth and defeat the Minotaur with a sword which was used to stab the Minotaur in the neck.
Daedalus fashioned two pairs of wings out of wax and feathers for himself and his son. Before they took off from the island, Daedalus warned his son not to fly too close to the sun, nor too close to the sea. Overcome by the giddiness that flying lent him, Icarus soared through the sky curiously, but in the process he came too close to the sun, which melted the wax. Icarus kept flapping his wings but soon realized that he had no feathers left and that he was only flapping his bare arms. And so, Icarus fell into the sea in the area which bears his name, the Icarian Sea near Icaria, an island southwest of Samos, Greece.

Why should I go My Lord?
This pictures made I for the ~ Summer's End Challenge ~ "Award tree" & personally for E.
I love manipulations. Its where I got my start. When I was in high school I had a free period where I would go down to the art room and just sit there are follow photoshop tutorials. Its how I learned what I know today.
One thing that hasn't changed is that I still get so nervous when I'm finished that I am afraid to look at the end result. I'm afraid that there is a mistake. Pressing flatten is so nerve racking!
Have a great night!
