I've been noticing more & more different species of these orb weavers from the Micranthena genus than ever before here on my property. Body of this one was approx 10mm, which would make it a female. Plus the male looks entirely different. Looking through photos on bugguide.net it looks as if there is quite an array of variations of patterns & colors this species can be. I recently posted a lower quality image of the black & white variation. Hope to get more photos of more variations of this species.

Micrathena gracilis is a spider in the family Araneidae (orb-weavers), commonly known as the Spined Micrathena. This spider spins a moderately large (can be 30 cm (11.81 in) or more across), very tightly coiled web, often in wooded or brushy areas. Some call it the "CD Spider" because its webs can make it appear that there are CDs hanging from the trees. It is completely harmless to humans.
The only web-building members of the species are the females. Females are 8-10 mm long. They exhibit a bulbous abdomen with a total of ten spines. Males exhibit a fair amount of sexual dimorphism. They tend to be around only half the size of the females. Also, they have fewer spines, a flatter abdomen, and a slightly lighter tone. Although males can produce silk, they mostly use it in the mating ritual, which frequently also proves fatal.
Micrathena gracilis hatches in the spring, the image of an adult. After the summer's growth, the female lays eggs in a sack. These remain relatively dormant through the winter months. The general life span is one year in length.

Claaaaarooo que eu corri na Panvel e comprei umas cores novas...
Na verdade só não comprei os rosinhas, um pq não tinha (o Valsa) e o outro pq não gostei muito (o seda)...mas acredito que em breve vou lá e compro eles...
As cores são bem legais, mas nada de anormal, o Tango e o Pimenta, são vermelhos e na unha ficam parecidos, o astral é um vermelho escuro (Eu adoro!!) o cinza é beeem cinza mesmo, e o Chamego é um rosa bem lindão!!!
Desculpem a foto, pra variar não consigo bater fotos legais, mas tô aprendendo, e o difícil tbem é que sempre bato as fotos a noite...o que dificulta mais ainda, mas é o horário que tenho livre...
E as cutículas?? Depois que vi as fotos fui dormir com os dedos lambuzados de Bepantol e agora estou com a Cerinha da Granado em cima da mesa preparada pra atacar!!!! hehehehehe...é o frio gente!!!!

The Mobilization for Climate Justice West (MCJ-West) turned out hundreds of people on a Monday afternoon and marched to the SF financial district offices of Chevron, the Environmental Protection Agency and BP calling for Big Oil to stop harming our environment and communities and pay up for the damage they’ve caused.
A coalition of national, regional and local groups, activists with MCJ-West) blockaded the doors of the SF BP offices and the intersection in front of the building.
With a set of demands, MCJ-West organized one of the largest direct actions at BP to date with 15 arrested.

First visit to Chicago was Christmas with the Cubans, and I've been here for six of those now – but this was the first time I'd shared Thanksgiving with them. Celebrated with all the life you'd expect from a wild bunch, for a holiday they never knew before immigrating here. For as long as I remember, I was the kid in the corner at every family gathering, just the one watching while it all went on. Susy was the first person who made me realize there was more than that, how I could go ahead and make some noise and come alive in the middle of a conversation. She has this kind of fire rising, watching in the mirror getting ready, looking so beautiful on our way out the door that I'd happily stay home with her. We spent the evening at her aunt's house on the opposite street, quick walk around the block. Uncle Jorge was on the phone from Cuba, cousins Megan and Christian were there, and the sound level rose without falling for hours. I still hear the laughter, deep echo in my mind.
