Here is a shot I snapped of the Messier 92 globular cluster this past week at Frosty Drew Observatory in Charlestown, Rhode Island, USA. M92 is found in the constellation Hercules and is one of the brighter globular star clusters visible in the Northern Hemisphere making it, at times, just barely naked eye visible. M96 residing at near 26,700 light years distant and has a diameter of 109 light years.

A star trail is a type of photograph that utilizes long-exposure times to capture the apparent motion of stars in the night sky due to the rotation of the Earth. A star trail photograph shows individual stars as streaks across the image, with longer exposures resulting in longer streaks. Typical exposure times for a star trail range from 15 minutes to several hours, requiring a 'bulb' setting on the camera to open the shutter for a longer period than is normal.

Best wishes to all the flickr community for Christmas (or whatever season you celebrate)! We hope that 2009 will be a very good year for all of us!

This is a sequence of images showcasing the solar eclipse over Southern Rhode Island on Monday, August 21, 2017. I captured the entire eclipse event on 30 second interval, though this image showcases the eclipse on 1 minute interval. The faded and blurry sections are due to increased cloud cover.
I was located at Frosty Drew Observatory in Charlestown, RI. At that location the eclipse began at 1:27 p.m. ET and ended at 4:01 p.m. ET. Greatest eclipse occurred at 2:47 p.m. ET.

Another shot from my sunrise trip to Marina Bay, sunrise was rather bleak but blue hour certainly did not fail to impress! Within the space of about 5 minutes the sky had turned from black-blue-grey!
Enjoy! :)

this is a stacked series of macro images. The images was taken thanks to magiclantern (www.magiclantern.fm) focus stacking function, and combined in combinezp (www.hadleyweb.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/CZP/News.htm)
this technique is great especially for macrophotography because it's a combination of many slices of focus in a unique superfocused image.

A stunning shot I captured of the bright star Spica last Thursday at Frosty Drew Observatory in Charlestown, Rhode Island, USA. Spica, found in the constellation Virgo, resides at 250 light years distant and is one of the closest candidate stars to Earth to undergo a type II supernova. Being a close proximity binary star, Spica A and B have an orbital period of 4 Earth days. The primary star, Spica A is a massive star with over 12,000 times the luminosity of the Sun, making Spica the 15th brightest star in the night sky.

Messier 37 is a fabulous open star cluster in the constellation Auriga. Residing at 4,500 light years distant, M37 spans 27 light years and contains about 1,500 times the mass of the Sun.
I captured this shot of M37 at Frosty Drew Observatory in Charlestown, Rhode Island, USA.
