My camera is set to manual 1/100, F5.0 ISO200
and I trigger with a short whistle,
I use homemade software on my camera and firmware from www.magiclantern.fm/releasenotes.
My cheap wire Nissin flash stands to the right, with a homemade softbox (ice-box clothing with an emergency blanket) to the left is an old movie canvas which is a great reflector and up, there is a styrofoam plate.
The picture is edited in the free program www.gimp.org/
and is a composite of two images, one with a hand and the banana (with wire) and one with only the background.
I captured this shot of the 2% crescent Moon on Friday afternoon, December 30, 2016. This was the last time we saw the Moon in Rhode Island for 2016. I shot this at Frosty Drew Observatory in Charlestown, RI. Happy New Year!

Here's a stunning shot I captured of binary star 61 Cygni this week at Frosty Drew Observatory in Charlestown, Rhode Island, USA. 61 Cygni, found in the constellation Cygnus, resides at 11.4 light years distant. Both stars are K-types and orbit their gravitational center once every 659 years.

This is the same scene I posted an image of few weeks ago. It's the lake created by the Nigardsbreen glacier in Norway. My one year old son was with us, and I wanted to take a shot of what it would have looked like to him when he was standing up. I have left the horizon and the point of convergence in the middle intentionally.
A Garrison Christmas at Fort George Historic Site in Niagara On The Lake, Ontario, Canada. Some of the the footage was shot by Kearah. The penny whistle music is by Kearah & Mackenzie, recorded a few years ago while practicing for 1812 anniversary celebration.

A stunning shot I snapped of the bright Red Giant star, Arcturus last night (May 14, 2015) at Frosty Drew Observatory in Charlestown, Rhode Island, USA. Arcturus, found in the constellation Bootes, is the brightest star in the Northern Hemisphere summer sky and the fourth brightest star in Earth's sky. Residing at 36.7 light years distant, Arcturus is quite close to the Solar System. Arcturus is easily visible in the Northern Hemisphere during spring and summer. Check it out.

This is a boldly illustrated glass slide featuring the heroic rescuse of a child by a traditional lifeboat man, braving the dangers of the storm on a pully.
The slide is from some time between the late 19th century and early 20th century. It would have been viewed using a magic lantern, an early type of image projector.

Here is another shot at Mount Rainier, this one taken from the trail to Myrtle Falls. To showcase the trail that eventually goes to the top, I thought the vertical format would work better.
atelier ying, nyc.
Connery's portrayal of Bond for the film Goldfinger is memorable, especially his golf match at the Royal St. Mark's course with Auric Goldfinger.
This is not a real Exakta. It's been gutted and redone to be camera that is also a golf clubhouse.
The camera is now digitized to open up more space for storage purposes.
A film winder has been attached to support a Caddy's lap notepad or a clubhouse betting book. You can use the main camera lens as a slide viewer for these slides, like a magic lantern or camera obscura except that the viewer's own eye is the projection surface.
Rolls of Slide film records of various golf courses are stored valuably below inside the film winder on a wall of gridded shelves in the style and manner of a cigar club and also very similar to the Gallery Ying camera. Instead of private individual humidors for members, each compartment holds notes for a single golf course in a roll of slide film and also one tiny cigar. One of tubes is a humi-tube to maintain proper humidity for this clubhouse humidor. The cigar of choice for this clubhouse would be the cuban Romeo y Julieta Petit Princess, a Perla size which would have to be trimmed a bit to accommodate the compartments.
An inner courtyard between the two volumes of the Exakta space gives a secondary view as both a viewfinder and a traditional expansive clubhouse vista of the last hole. When closed, the courtyard stores shot glasses.
The caddy book can be optionally contain notes for the World Golf Tour's virtual courses.
The camera's presentation case holds many items including: the digitized camera, a small bottle of St. Andrews Old Course Single Malt Whiskey honoring Connery a Scotsman (Drambuie is substituted for the atelier ying "commemorative" case), a golf caddy notebook and refill, a clubhouse betting book and a Telex rangefinder which would be a kind of pinseeker within 40 feet.
A Notice to all my Flickr friends: does anyone want to play some WGT Golf online? We could form a Flickr Country Club with St. Andrews as the home course and have some real fun together. No restrictions apply. Please email me, this might be more productive than a Flickr group! We can use this uploaded drawing as an update link.

With the majority of HDR images I have shot so far I tend to use the AEB feature of my Canon 5d Mark II which allows me to shoot three exposures, one at -2ev, one at 0ev and one at +2ev. In the past week i've just updated the firmware on the 5d mkII to the Canon version 2.0.8 and then copied the hacked firmware called "Magic Lantern" to the Compact Flash card:
magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/Magic_Lantern_Firmware_Wiki
This hacked firmware allows to complete control over the bracketing feature and as a test the above HDR image was taken as a 13 exposure x 1 stop bracketed image. This works out to be -6ev,-5ev,-4ev,-3ev,-2ev,-1ev,0ev,+1ev,+2ev,+3ev,+4ev,+5ev,+6ev
The actual version I used for this test was v0.1.9 that the genius Trammell Hudson uploaded to this thread:
groups.google.com/group/ml-devel/browse_thread/thread/9ab...
I did reprocess this image in photomatix by just choosing the -2ev,0ev and +2ev images and there was definatly alot more noise (around the brickwork at the back) and less dynamic range (esp in the windows) in the 3 exposure shot.
I'm not sure about using this method in future as it means taking (and archiving) 330Mb of raw CR2 files for each image taken!

This is a Glass Slide of the H.M.S Victoria in Dock. The H.M.S Victoria was an iconic Battleship named in honour of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1888.
The slide is from the late 19th century. It was taken by the Tynemouth Photographer M. Auty.
The slide would have been viewed through a Magic Lantern, an early type of image projector.

I did not plan to photograph this graphic since the box and magic lantern it held are on the top of a very tall bookcase. I had a request from a film maker for the picture and found that I had only a low resolution jpeg.
In a fortunate coincidence Jack had a tall ladder out to clean the fan in the same room, so down it came to be scanned and returned.
There is so much to love about the chromolitho box label; the father manning the magic lantern, the mother and children watching the show, the Victorian interior, and the gnome holding up a curtain.

Nine bracketed exposures using magic lantern firmware, +1 shot YN460 bounced off ceiling, blended with enfuse, hard distortion correction on verticals, and final adjustments on CS5.
I really felt in love with this apartment. It's not big, but it's pretty well designed, and beautifully decorated. With not so many furniture, great use of colour, luminous, full in little details. That's the kind of space i enjoy shooting. I was very satisfied about that photoshoot, but, you know, the owner argue about the ceilings. From her point of view, I included more ceiling than the necessary, cause she doesn't likes sloping ceilings....
For me, this sloping ceiling it's the main design concept that makes this appartment different, and that reason drove me to give the ceiling more space on the frame.
But, learning step by step, next time i will ask the owner wich aspects should be hidden o showed.

Victoria Beach California
The 16th century looking Victorian turret or lighthouse type structure, built as a spiral staircase access to the beach from the towering residence above, was built in 1926. The castle like tower is a most see for tourists and photographers.

Whilst this is not the best time to shoot the sunset, I tried this with the help of Magic Lantern and see how the result would come out. Hope you like it since I tried to depict what I saw.

The comments on this one now read like a detective novel!
Seemingly identified by someone with local knowledge (see comments), but then a few doubts have were cast. But finally a Kellys Directory showing that 3 Lombard St was listed as a hairdressers in Kelly's Directory of 1887, run by an M Himmel, has surely sealed it?
Here are the clues: a sign on the wall that suggests it's near a train station on a line south-east of London. See notes on image for details of all signs (including the fact that it's a hairdressers and perfumers). The London, Chatham & Dover Railway (named on the sign by the doorway) amalgamated in 1899 so it dates from before then.
