I went out for a little bit today...paid a visit to Ferry Farm, the boyhood home of General George Washington, along the Rappahannock River in Fredericksburg, Va. The house is no longer in existence. but in July of 2008, an archeological dig located the foundation of the original farmhouse, and the excavation for artifacts is ongoing. The group responsible for saving the property hopes someday to be able to replicate the house from all of the information that is being collected. ..........SIGH......i want to help with the dig.....i always wanted to do something like that. i even asked for the chance to join in on a dig in Williamsburg, Va. as a birthday gift from my family.....alas, all that did was make them certain i was some kind of a nut.... :(

The bit i learned today about the farm is below for those with a curiosity or penchant for some history: (Larry, you can skip the novella if you want!)

George Washington's father Augustine purchased the farm in 1738. Upon his death in 1743, George inherited the farm...he was 11 years old, his mother managed the farm for him. His 2 older half brothers each inherited larger farms....Mt. Vernon being one of them. When one of the half brothers passed away in 1743, George was 20, and inherited Mt. Vernon . He chose to move to Alexandria, and into Mt. Vernon after his brothers passing.. His mother did not want to leave the farm in Fredericksburg, so he kept that farm for her, until years later when she decided to move into the city of Fredericksburg to be closer to her daughter, Betty. In 1774 George sold the farm to Hugh Mercer.

Originally the farm was called simply "Home Farm", but they changed the name because of the Ferry traffic that brought people back and forth to Fredericksburg daily, from the river behind the farm. The Washington's did not own or operate the ferry service.

I hope to get back there to explore the archeological lab and the dig site....and the fascinating museum of artifacts found on the grounds of the farm. i think if i lived down here i would never be bored!! :)

This magical pumpkin was on one of the fences in the garden, providing a late afternoon opportunity to show off the magical bokeh beyond....enjoy and hmbt!!

wouldn't you interact with someone who smiles at you?

would you give someone yelling at you a real smile?

with the fucking eyes.

ya' know ...

well ... i know i friggin' wouldn't.

people who yell at me get the c-bomb dropped. guy or girl.

doesn't matter.

like the ungrateful bastard who i got rep'd by an agency who says, "dude ... stop making her look at you. i can't get anything."

he'd probably burned through a 1gb card.

the one thing about line shooters ... they don't care about making something interesting.

just the standard eye-contact-head-shot.

or 20 of them.

so ... what did i say to the ingrate?

"there's a reason you're back there ... and ... i'm out here. trust me."

fucked up?

well ... this is hollywood.

there are alpha dogs and dogs who lay at the ground spreading their legs.

dunno why i said that.

anyway ... this 85/1.2L ... i see with it the way i see with my leica m's. different ... but much the same.

i saw washed out with backlight.

focused on her left eye.

magical bokeh of some fucked up background that ends up looking cool.

bumping the contrast.

adding some noise to the noise that's alread inherent at 800 iso.

i can't believe how much i love this lens.

sadly ... the leicas have suffered ever since the new baby arrived as it were.

I couldn't resist a photo of Baylie in the late afternoon light against the magical bokeh of the Chinese Pistachio tree in our yard. This is an ornamental tree, grown for its intensity of fall colors. No fruit on these, just berries. They dot the streets and landscapes in and around our town and put on quite a seasonal show.

Minolta 58mm ƒ/1.2 MC Rokkor-X PG (~1972-1974)

Yes, I said ƒ/1.2 !!!!! :-)

I picked this up at a rummage sales back in the late 70's / early 80's, and had plans to modify it for my Nikon FM (manual film camera) I had completely forgotten about it for years, until I ran across it while cleaning the garage. It has allot of glass, and heavy for it's size. A high speed lens that can create some really magical bokeh, often referred to as creamy bokeh.

When I first posted this, I had plans to modify the lens for my D90, but I never had the guts to start filing on it..

At some point in the future, I may place this on eBay, or trading it for an equivalent fast 50 lens, better suited for my D90..

The stock lens should fit perfectly on any of the Sony DSLR's, and will also work with Canon camera's with some modification. The link below describes that DYI.

www.cogitech.ca/Rokkor/index.html

Note, the lens is very clean, smooth action with no sign of mold.

The only issue is:

The lens f-stop ring has lost the click stop action. This is probably just a missing ball barring or spring, easily accessed from the rear.

Is a magical bokeh land! :)

Okay, I'll grudgingly admit this view is one good thing about my apartment.

For ODC 19/6 - Through a single window AND 20/6 - Urban landscape. Because it's the week and to be honest I'll take any opportunity to kill two birds with one stone!

(Figure of speech only. I would never kill any number of birds with any number of stones)

Shot for Smile on Saturday, theme "one single leaf".

Shot with my ancient Canon 5D (the classic) and the New Petzval lens with it's magical bokeh. In post converted to black and white, made it a bit more special I think (matter of taste really)

Have a nice Saturday!

A sample shot of ermm... our attempts. i have a better one that actually shows some text in the book, but i like this first attempt despite the elongated heart, because the background looks like Martian terrain. Except for the blue, thanks to tungsten white balance. First attempts are always more natural, i find.

It's the very first day of Summer 2011 and my sister Sylvia agreed to do a little photo shoot outside in our backyard. I've always been wanting to do portraits of other people and I have found my first victim :D

Overall, I think the pictures turned out really good and my sister agrees!

I especially like this shot because of the magical bokeh specs that appeared to the right of her.

Probably from dust or bugs or something :)
