This is how I love to spend my time.....

I went back to basics a little this week. Most of the shots I liked from MM last week were more abstract shots that explored the mood of the shot not necessarily its form. So, I used my old super takumar a few extension tubes and had some fun exploring my electric guitar!

Hydrangea macro

The old bridge of Levensau, near Kiel / Germany was build in 1894, is 163m long with a high of 42m.

Taken with the Kiron 105mm f/2.8 manual focus lens. The lens can produce a magical bokeh given the right conditions.

The magical bokeh was from the running water in the back of the pond by using large aperture and backlighting.

Cut-leaf coneflowers are quite tall and delicate looking, and they're found throughout North America. These lovely flowers were captured alongside a stream at a local park.

I have been photographing a pair of Pacific Loons on a local lake for years now. Often guiding other photographers out for their turn to photograph these beautiful birds. I have been wanting to photograph them in the evening light for some time now and finally made it happen while guiding a couple other photographers that were up from out of state. We arrived at the lake with only a few hours before sundown. The golden light filtered through the trees on the opposite side of the lake casting its enchanting light on the calm water. The debris on the surface of the water created some magical bokeh making this portrait really special. The rim lighting around the bird is perfect and this outing exceeded my expectations.

During this holiday season, Mother Nature adds her own magical lights to remind us that the garden is still a place of wonders.

It was an overall frosty, cold day. Despite sunny moments, which could not completely beat the frost. Indeed, I thought of gloves. Especially because, the sun only came sparse in the forest. Nevertheless I was happy to see the little mushroom grow out of a very, very old bench. And with a little sun, which conjured up this magical bokeh.

This is another favourite from the week on Mull. This is a different otter to the one in the first shot and this one wasn't quite so at ease with human company so I've had to crop into this shot.

I was lucky in that the sun came out and being nice and early in the morning gave this magical bokeh on the seaweed behind.

I have an unashamed fondness for these animals and it always lifts my heart to watch and photograph them.

I took this image at the San Diego Zoo yesterday. In fact, I took 514 images in 5 hrs I have been there. After initial scan on my computer I am now down to 346 of mostly plants, as let's be realistic, I come to the Zoo for the their plants mostly. :-) However, what made this image special for me is that I am amazed really that I was even able to capture this pretty sharp image of very fast moving bird in flight on the vintage 50mm lens from the 70s with no auto focus ability and manual everything. This is precisely why I choose to take this lens with me to this outing to the Zoo. It is pretty sharp, but at the same time it also creates beautiful bokeh bubbles or hexagons.
