I went back to basics a little this week. Most of the shots I liked from MM last week were more abstract shots that explored the mood of the shot not necessarily its form. So, I used my old super takumar a few extension tubes and had some fun exploring my electric guitar!

Taken with the Kiron 105mm f/2.8 manual focus lens. The lens can produce a magical bokeh given the right conditions.
The magical bokeh was from the running water in the back of the pond by using large aperture and backlighting.

Cut-leaf coneflowers are quite tall and delicate looking, and they're found throughout North America. These lovely flowers were captured alongside a stream at a local park.

It was an overall frosty, cold day. Despite sunny moments, which could not completely beat the frost. Indeed, I thought of gloves. Especially because, the sun only came sparse in the forest. Nevertheless I was happy to see the little mushroom grow out of a very, very old bench. And with a little sun, which conjured up this magical bokeh.

I have just received a parcel! Inside was this Helios lens. It was the price of a couple of bottles of decent wine, Peter!!! I wanted to see what all the fuss was about- there is a way to go yet to discover its full potential, but just look at the magical bokeh!!

I took this image at the San Diego Zoo yesterday. In fact, I took 514 images in 5 hrs I have been there. After initial scan on my computer I am now down to 346 of mostly plants, as let's be realistic, I come to the Zoo for the their plants mostly. :-) However, what made this image special for me is that I am amazed really that I was even able to capture this pretty sharp image of very fast moving bird in flight on the vintage 50mm lens from the 70s with no auto focus ability and manual everything. This is precisely why I choose to take this lens with me to this outing to the Zoo. It is pretty sharp, but at the same time it also creates beautiful bokeh bubbles or hexagons.

Summer memories.....beautiful icarus blue or common blue completely covered with dew waiting for the morningsun to dry him. The reed in the back of him caught the light beautifully wich resulted in this magical bokeh. I allready miss summer but I have great memories :-)
When i fist spotted the Flycatcher on this stump in the woods i took a couple from distance before i approached and glad i did because catching the early morning woodland lights made for a magical bokeh :-)

One never knows what lurks in the magical bokeh bowel. Some say from the alchemist's fires a new Explore shall be born. Do you see the signs? Look closely. I'm not sure that viewing in large size will help, but give it a try. They say once the newborn sees itself, it's time has come.
On 31 January, people around the world mark the International Zebra Day - a special day to celebrate these magnificent animals.
Native to Africa, there are several species of zebra which can found in the wild in different countries across the continent.
Zebras are social animals that live in large groups called herds in a variety of habitats including savannahs, grasslands and woodlands.
However, in some places zebras are under threat from habitat loss, climate change and poaching and the event also highlights the importance of protecting these striped species.
There are actually three different species of zebra: the plains zebra, the mountain zebra and the Grévy's zebra.
The most common species is the plains zebra with around 750,000 animals thought to live in the wild, however the largest of the three species, the Grévy's zebra, is the most threatened.
There are thought to be only around 2,500 Grévy's zebras in the wild and the species has been listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
This very handsome Plains zebra (Equus quagga), was photographed during a photography safari on an early morning game drive in Nairobi National Park, Kenya.
