Although I will be back tomorrow with another dragonfly shot for Dragonfly Thursday. But only a single photo, which I'll explain why at that time. And so you'll know, this was taken early this past summmer at "the pond across the street".

Parting image of budding branches against a surface ice background on Twin Lakes from that Memorial Day hike. So many of you on Flickr get magical bokeh effects; me, not so much, but at least I attempt it now, instead of f16 every image for max DOF!
You know the drill by now: RAW edits in View-NXi, some other adjustments in Corel Paintshop Pro
Type "L" to view on black.
Hello Flickroos,
Well, I finally got my weekly photo up. On the last day of the week! It's been such a busy week, but also a very exciting week.
This photo was actually inspired by the flickr logo.Chloe is my beautiful hand model. We call these balls the "magical bokeh balls", because the glitter in these things can make crazy-amazing bokeh. ^_^
I hope you are all having a lovely weekend,
Abbey
Added Later: Okay, I'm just going to put it out there. .Here is my non-doll-photography blog.
I am pretty critical of my own pictures, particularly in hindsight when I consider how they could have turned out differently.
But I think this is BEAUTIFUL!
(The fact that the model and I spent about a half hour crouched in a muddy gully with her perch undulating in all directions in a stiff breeze, she dashing off to grab minute winged snacks probably a half dozen times, and the sun (required to be at its fullest on the red earth behind to get the magical bokeh) disappearing and reappearing from behind the wind-driven clouds, just makes it that much more satisfying.)

As the presents were opened this morning, the ripping of the paper created dust, which caught the sunlight coming through the window. Cranking up the contrast resulted in this magical bokeh
Merry Christmas

There is no difference between mushrooms and toadstools, although the term toadstools has gradually become applied to toxic types.
Mushrooms found in gardens or on lawns are highly unlikely to be seriously toxic but may cause gastrointestinal upsets or be hallucinogenic..
.
Did I take this photo...
Woah that was all camera and lightroom
Thanks to Michelle Black's Hideout for the Rich Mocha preset

Viendo los 4 grados bajo cero que me acompañan aún hoy en León, seguro que tardaré varias semanas en poder fotografiar flores por aquí,así que inauguré mi temporada macrera este fin de semana en Cáceres.

Today it was -10C and windy outside, but yesterday I was able to take this image of a snowdrop fighting through winter to make a statement: freezing temperatures and miserable weather will not stop the arrival of spring. At the edge of winter, nature has adapted to survive just fine.
Snowdrops and other flowers that bloom at this time of the year have a sort of “antifreeze” protein that prevents water turning to ice inside cells and killing them in temperatures that harm other plants. They may droop a little more when it’s freezing cold, but they bounce back as the temperature rises. The wonders of evolution at play – the snow around the base of this flower doesn’t bother it at all.
Which is a good thing, because snowdrops are my wife’s favourite flower and we’re trying to establish a healthy group of these in our garden. Knowing that the snow around such a flower is iconic, but that this one had started blooming in an area with remaining fresh snow from a few days before, I transplanted the snow to this location from a shaded part of the yard. I also deliberately designed the background, falling off to a deep pale blue. Maybe the right word there I “pail” blue, since the colour is coming from a small blue garbage pail placed in behind.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes image of the setup: donkom.ca/bts/snowdrop-bts.jpg
I used a flashlight to add extra sparkle to the snow, which when out of focus with a Trioplan 100 lens turns into a very beautiful bokeh. Those faint circles dancing around in the background are only possible with direct light hitting the snow and having a very shallow depth of field. The Trioplan 100 (and many other similar lenses) only display this “magical” bokeh when shooting wide open, so you need to choose your focus carefully if you’re after a single-shot image like this. Aligning the camera to the subject to make sure your focal plane passes through as much of the subject as is necessary can be difficult. If I was a little higher and aimed the camera at the flower head, much of the rest of the flower would be out of focus. I feel this angle finds the right balance – but there were dozens of other shots that didn’t find that balance! Much adjusting and experimenting was required here.
In the end, this image is trying to tell a story. That’s a hard thing to do with macro photography of static subjects, and I’ve failed at it many times in the past. This image is as much about fragile beauty as it about strength and perseverance, which is why it’s a personal favourite in my work photographing flowers. Absolutely inspired by my wife Desi to make this image. <3
If you’d like to walk through our award winning gardens here, you should absolutely consider a workshop. I’ve got a number of full-day macro workshops in July and August, and a variety of 3-hour water droplet refraction workshops coming up: www.donkom.ca/workshops/ - I promise you’ll walk away with magical images and new knowledge and techniques to be creative and inventive with your photography.

I went out for a little bit today...paid a visit to Ferry Farm, the boyhood home of General George Washington, along the Rappahannock River in Fredericksburg, Va. The house is no longer in existence. but in July of 2008, an archeological dig located the foundation of the original farmhouse, and the excavation for artifacts is ongoing. The group responsible for saving the property hopes someday to be able to replicate the house from all of the information that is being collected. ..........SIGH......i want to help with the dig.....i always wanted to do something like that. i even asked for the chance to join in on a dig in Williamsburg, Va. as a birthday gift from my family.....alas, all that did was make them certain i was some kind of a nut.... :(
The bit i learned today about the farm is below for those with a curiosity or penchant for some history: (Larry, you can skip the novella if you want!)
George Washington's father Augustine purchased the farm in 1738. Upon his death in 1743, George inherited the farm...he was 11 years old, his mother managed the farm for him. His 2 older half brothers each inherited larger farms....Mt. Vernon being one of them. When one of the half brothers passed away in 1743, George was 20, and inherited Mt. Vernon . He chose to move to Alexandria, and into Mt. Vernon after his brothers passing.. His mother did not want to leave the farm in Fredericksburg, so he kept that farm for her, until years later when she decided to move into the city of Fredericksburg to be closer to her daughter, Betty. In 1774 George sold the farm to Hugh Mercer.
Originally the farm was called simply "Home Farm", but they changed the name because of the Ferry traffic that brought people back and forth to Fredericksburg daily, from the river behind the farm. The Washington's did not own or operate the ferry service.
I hope to get back there to explore the archeological lab and the dig site....and the fascinating museum of artifacts found on the grounds of the farm. i think if i lived down here i would never be bored!! :)
This magical pumpkin was on one of the fences in the garden, providing a late afternoon opportunity to show off the magical bokeh beyond....enjoy and hmbt!!
GINGERBREAD HOUSE MAGIC Beautiful little gingerbread house was given to me by a friend - how sweet it is! Making the most of the Christmas tree lights to get the magical BOKEH. Look forward to editing in Wk 50 to use as Christmas cards for 2017.
keeping an eye on us. taken with my telephoto lens, shooting through the cage into the sunlight created a sort of magical bokeh effect.

wouldn't you interact with someone who smiles at you?
would you give someone yelling at you a real smile?
with the fucking eyes.
ya' know ...
well ... i know i friggin' wouldn't.
people who yell at me get the c-bomb dropped. guy or girl.
doesn't matter.
like the ungrateful bastard who i got rep'd by an agency who says, "dude ... stop making her look at you. i can't get anything."
he'd probably burned through a 1gb card.
the one thing about line shooters ... they don't care about making something interesting.
just the standard eye-contact-head-shot.
or 20 of them.
so ... what did i say to the ingrate?
"there's a reason you're back there ... and ... i'm out here. trust me."
fucked up?
well ... this is hollywood.
there are alpha dogs and dogs who lay at the ground spreading their legs.
dunno why i said that.
anyway ... this 85/1.2L ... i see with it the way i see with my leica m's. different ... but much the same.
i saw washed out with backlight.
focused on her left eye.
magical bokeh of some fucked up background that ends up looking cool.
bumping the contrast.
adding some noise to the noise that's alread inherent at 800 iso.
i can't believe how much i love this lens.
sadly ... the leicas have suffered ever since the new baby arrived as it were.
canon e1dm2. 85/1.2L. 1/500th or so. f1/2. 800 iso. converted to b/w in ps cs with custom channel mixing actions. bumped contrast. adj levels.
Minolta 58mm ƒ/1.2 MC Rokkor-X PG (~1972-1974)
Yes, I said ƒ/1.2 !!!!! :-)
I picked this up at a rummage sales back in the late 70's / early 80's, and had plans to modify it for my Nikon FM (manual film camera) I had completely forgotten about it for years, until I ran across it while cleaning the garage. It has allot of glass, and heavy for it's size. A high speed lens that can create some really magical bokeh, often referred to as creamy bokeh.
When I first posted this, I had plans to modify the lens for my D90, but I never had the guts to start filing on it..
At some point in the future, I may place this on eBay, or trading it for an equivalent fast 50 lens, better suited for my D90..
The stock lens should fit perfectly on any of the Sony DSLR's, and will also work with Canon camera's with some modification. The link below describes that DYI.
www.cogitech.ca/Rokkor/index.html
Note, the lens is very clean, smooth action with no sign of mold.
The only issue is:
The lens f-stop ring has lost the click stop action. This is probably just a missing ball barring or spring, easily accessed from the rear.

Is a magical bokeh land! :)
Okay, I'll grudgingly admit this view is one good thing about my apartment.
For ODC 19/6 - Through a single window AND 20/6 - Urban landscape. Because it's the week and to be honest I'll take any opportunity to kill two birds with one stone!
(Figure of speech only. I would never kill any number of birds with any number of stones)
