A cactus is a member of the plant family Cactaceae, a family comprising about 127 genera with some 1750 known species of the order Caryophyllales. The word "cactus" derives, through Latin, from the Ancient Greek κάκτος, kaktos, a name originally used by Theophrastus for a spiny plant whose identity is not certain
This hornet must have wandered accidentally into our kitchen. At the moment I took this image, it was drinking from a drop of water on the handle of a sharp knife, lying near the sink.
None of the photos I snapped with my macro lens turned out focused exactly to my liking; perhaps it was the lighting. But, I think it's worth sharing a frame of this little insect.

So I planed a morning of photography at the gardens yesterday. I had about an hour and a half before I needed to be home for the boys.I arrived earlier than it opens, which is not uncommon as I can usually sneak in...but not yesterday. So in the parking lot I got a few frames in as there were some lovely flowers. Then about 5 minutes before it opens the sky's open up and some of the craziest rain comes down. I waited for a while but it didn't look like it was going to change so I drove home (which is 20 minutes). The moment I got in my driveway the rain stopped and rest of the day was bright and sunny. KARMA. This is one of the hibiscus in the parking lot.
