"TODAY is a GIFT; that's why it's called PRESENT"
Ah...what a great reminder!
Have a GREAT week everyone!
“Clouds of insects danced and buzzed in the golden autumn light, and the air was full of the piping of the song-birds. Long, glinting dragonflies shot across the path, or hung tremulous with gauzy wings and gleaming bodies.”
Arthur Conan Doyle, Sr. (1859-1930)
This dragonfly was caught in a sudden downpour and took refuge on a plant not in the rain so he will not get wet.
while editing this photo i used the auto adjust feature of my photo editor, which produced this interesting blue background effect not in the original photo. although not what i saw or what the camera registered, i thought the colors were natural enough and loved the blue, so i left it this way.
Instead of saying the color "orange", Gabriel calls it "oranges." He does not mean the fruit, he means the color.
Yet another california poppy...
I am feeling a little bit low today and I have been going through my photos and found these from last year. I have been missing my flower and bee photos so I have decided to add some today. My daughter and I (and grandchildren) went to the Castle Hill Agricultural Show today and had a lovely time, but I am feeling a little weary at the moment LOL. You can see some of my daughter's photos here as I still don't have my camera back:
Come, cuddle your head on my shoulder, dear, your head like the golden-rod, and we will go sailing away from here to the beautiful land of Nod.

The genera Euryale, of far east Asia, and VIctoria, from South America, are closely related despite their geographic distance, but their relationship toward Nymphaea need further studies.

I've been experimenting with refractions and focus stacking. This is my first attempt at focus stacking. I used a Velbon Super Mag Slider and did the stacking in PS CC.
I had been watching this spider on the side of a parking lot post when he began to descend and start running rapidly across the ground. I thought I would lose him but he suddenly stopped. Their ill fortune was my good fortune.
Black swallowtail caterpillar.

May is I ♥ Chicago Month! A month-long pictorial tribute to those things big & small--from flowers on the ground to skyscrapers in the air--that make this my favorite city!
Flowers: While I'm sure the West Coast has its own share of gorgeous flora, I got my first DSLR while living here, and first filled my frame with Chicago's gorgeous flowers.
NOTE: Sorry for disappearing for days at a time...with only 3 weeks left before the move, my time is stretched so thin. As always, thank you all so much for your support, and you know I will do my very best to visit each of your streams. :)

All this for photo for Macro Mondays, first cut and left on the table. Than frozen for one day, and finally baked or dehydrated at 80°C, all for just the word dried as theme for Macro Mondays.

But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors
Are beautiful like a rainbow

I took this at the same time I took macro time. If you look closely you can see a common element. You'll need to view the large version to see it ;)

Insect macros will be winding down quickly now. Weather has turned decidedly fall-like...overnight temps in the high thirties already. Insect activity has dropped way off.
Plus, Parks Dept has mowed the foliage habitat at the lake to the ground for this year, so my primary macro-shooting location is now more of a golf course than a nature reserve. Still have a fair number of photos stored up, but new stuff after that will be very limited.
