taken at tenerife zoo. we walked through a tunnel with all kind of exotic birds flying around and over our head and this macaw caught my attention. we also had to watch out for dragon lizards as they were all over the floor as well! really great day out for family.
Domestic birds come in many shapes and forms; barnyard chickens, pet finches, ducks, parrots, peacocks and even domestic pigeons. These shots should be portrait type shots. Aim for a flattering posed shot of one bird.
This photo was taken at a local bird store. The bird was on a perch (out of the cage) and lit by a fluorescent light in the ceiling.

Macaws are beautiful, brilliantly coloured members of the parrot family.
Many macaws have vibrant plumage. The colouring is suited to life in Central and South American rain forests, with their green canopies and colourful fruits and flowers. The birds boast large, powerful beaks that easily crack nuts and seeds, while their dry, scaly tongues have a bone inside them that makes them an effective tool for tapping into fruits.

A joke to bright your day!
One day a man went to an auction. There, he found an exotic parrot. He really wanted this bird, so he got caught up in the bidding. He kept bidding, but kept getting outbid, so he went higher and higher and higher.
Finally, after bidding much more than he had intended, he finally won. The bird was his! As he was paying for the parrot, he said to the auctioneer, "I sure hope this parrot isn't defective. I'd hate to pay this much money only to find out that he can't talk!"
"Of course he can talk," said the auctioneer. "Who do you think kept bidding against you?"
The Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) is a large, red, yellow and blue South American parrot, a member of a large group of Neotropical parrots called macaws. It is native to humid evergreen forests of tropical South America. Range extends from extreme south-eastern Mexico to Amazonian Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela and Brazil in lowlands up to 500 m (1,640 ft) (at least formerly) up to 1,000 m (3,281 ft). It has suffered from local extinction through habitat destruction and capture for the parrot trade, but locally it remains fairly common. Formerly it ranged north to southern Tamaulipas. It can still be found on the island of Coiba. It is the national bird of Honduras.

We just got back from our Costa Rica trip and I must say it was fantastic. What a great group and great birds. Here is a Scarlet Macaw from the first day of our trip. Though it was pretty much a travel day we did have a short time to look for birds and take a few photos, how nice it was to have a colorful beauty like this to kick things off. I think everyone in the group was amazed at how many birds we found and photographed on the trip. What can I saw, Costa Rica is an awesome place for birds.

Another shot of this very colourful Macaw. Once again snapped with the Sony RX-100, very much recommended as a high quality pocket compact that can shoot RAW.
