Macaws are beautiful, brilliantly colored members of the parrot family.
Many macaws have vibrant plumage. The coloring is suited to life in Central and South American rain forests, with their green canopies and colorful fruits and flowers. The birds boast large, powerful beaks that easily crack nuts and seeds, while their dry, scaly tongues have a bone inside them that makes them an effective tool for tapping into fruits.
Macaws also have gripping toes that they use to latch onto branches and to grab, hold, and examine items. The birds sport graceful tails that are typically very long.

One of my rare zoo shots -from Adelaide Zoo in South Australia. I like this as it is a free flight display within the zoo and it is allowed to fly freely around the central lawn and garden areas within the zoo.
I wish I could say I captured these colorful Macaws somewhere in the wild, but they were actually sitting very calmly on perches at the Xel-Ha park during our visit. They would let you get quite close without flinching. Xel-Ha is close to Tulum in the Riviera Maya region of Mexico.

One of the top target birds of our Pantanal trip was the Hyacinth Macaw and we were definitely not disappointed. We were fortunate to see these magnificent birds at each location that we visited. This was my first good photo opportunity with one. They were a bit more challenging to photograph than one might expect due to their large size and seemingly constant movement. They are quite entertaining to watch.

Several red-and-green macaw couples (ara chloropterus) can be found inside and nearby the magnificent doline formation localized in Bonito, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. The so called "Buraco das Araras" (from portuguese meaning Macaws' Hole) has a diameter over 500m and 100m depth and the amazing birds' nests are everywhere along the walls craters. With 1,5kg and 0,90m wingspan, this beautiful macaw is one of the most beautiful specie from Brazilian "cerrado".
Anodorhynchus leari
This magnificent rare Macaw is another of the main targets on any N.E. Brazil trip.
It has a tiny range in the dry caatinga habitat, favouring the spectacular sandy cliffs to nest...
At one point in the mid 1980's the population was thought to be as few as 60 -70 birds! Numbers have increased with conservation efforts and there are now thought to be around 1000 birds...
Visited Don Alvaro's Macaw Farm in Costa Rica where he has rehabbed injured or captured Macaws for nearly twenty years. Parrots roam freely over his farm but come quickly when he calls for feeding time.
so i went to butterfly world in search of butterflies but this guy really caught my attention. i couln't count how many colors this bird has. lets try counting again :-)
