Ninja may be old but he still has his appetite! Looks like he's getting the evil eye from Mikki who is sitting on the back of the settee. He was 18 possibly 19 when this photo was taken. We lost Ninja last year at the ripe old age of 25. He was a real character and we miss him very much.

At this moment I have a fire humming, a tray with gingerbread tea steeping, little Vashkie snuggled under a blanket at my side, the piano open and inviting from the bay window, the vase of flowers on the fireplace mantel bursting in beautiful large blooms and lovely views of the sun through the trees from all the windows. Sometimes life can be so gracefully peaceful.

... the labour of love that was my mom's birthday cake was born. For her, who insisted on making this ricotta-mascarpone creation as her first cheesecake in about 8 years, it was more painful than actual labour! That's what she gets for not trusting me to make her birthday cake myself!

So the other day I was doing some things around the yard at home and ran across this small scrawled message on a gutter downspout. The first reaction of the father in me was to lecture my daughter on the evils of graffiti and make her clean it up. But, then I couldn’t—the more I thought about it, the more it warmed my heart. As a parent, you try so hard to have a home that allows your kids to feel safe and secure and loved. And you know, that in this world, that’s not something everyone is able to do for one reason or another.

 

Every now and then it’s nice to get confirmation you might be doing your job right. [grin] I think I’ll let it stay on the downspout…
