The Macro Mondays group challenge for this week was to capture "Urban Decay" in a macro form. While technically not a macro, the images I've responded with show the closest I can find to "decay" in this shiny-new Silicon Valley.
These are the long-abandoned train tracks outside the Hendy Iron Works in Sunnyvale, CA. This site is now Lockheed's Marine works. The rails have long been unused, as seen in this shot where the groove for the flange of the wheels is filled in with gravel and grit. I wanted to force the point of view here by opening the aperture as wide as I could to enhance the foreground and background blur. I think that this reflects that we're seeing just a small portion of the "life" of these rails.
Snapped with the Pentax K10D camera with the smc P-DA* 50-135mm F2.8 ED (IF) SDM lens. PP with UFRaw.

Dancers at the festival of "quilombos". On July 11 2001, three teachers from Lancashire, England set out to rediscover a remote plateau in Brazil, which is believed to have been the inspiration behind Conan Doyle's famous "Lost World".
In 1908 an English explorer, Colonel Percival Fawcett discovered the Serra Ricardo Franco hills in the Matto Grosso region of Brazil, whilst mapping the Brazilian/Bolivian border. Simon Chapman (expedition leader), D J Clark and Derek Roddenburg, retraced the footsteps of Fawcett and investigated his claims of a remote and inhospitable jungle wilderness.

I have just started a set for lost posters. I went out this afternoon and found these lost stickers. wow I think I am riding the zeitguiest wave!!
The photo reminded me of some show on TV.
My weekly entry for "wide angle". For anyone who has walked down to the bottom of Snoqualmie Falls you will recognize this part... there is a long pass-through that is entirely enclosed in fencing, then these huge long tubes and the sound of rushing water. The rich greens and wet climate reminded me of Lost and being on a scary Island.
Exif info: 5D + 24-70 @ 24mm, 1/200s at F/4.0.
I guess we'll see a lot of these items left behind as the weather warms up and we start "peeling" our skin while outdoors.
