Canadian National coal train No. 769 loads at Teck’s Luscar Mine near Cadomin, Alberta, on July 15, 2013. Afternoon sunlight illuminates the Luscar Mine coal processing plant into interesting shapes as the train slowly loads on the spur. This loadout is part of Teck’s Cardinal River Operation and is located on a line operating out of Leyland called the Luscar Industrial Spur.

Caged sound

BLOL 7591 (ex NP GP9) & BLOL 7504 (original IC GP9, now a GP10) loading grain cars for the CN up in Charolette, IL. This was back in 2017 when it seemed to be easier to catch matching set of Bloomer power & catch bigger trains. Still to this day, I love shooting these guys.

CSX R202 begins loading its 75-car train with Greenbrier Smokeless Coal in Anjean, WV. This loadout only loads a handful of trains every year, so this train was tied down for 3 days before the mine had enough coal to load all 75 cars.

Lots to look at in this picture... in only 3 months the iconic "Superwood" plant in the back would be forever idled, the iconic smell never to waft over Duluth again. Although at the time I was incredulous that such a high profile and high dollar move was tasked to a pair of beaten and worn SD40's, now I'm glad it was! Traffic is backed up far down Railroad Street and won't clear for some time, as this massive load was moving at a snails pace. Although Port Terminal is a great place for unloading cargo, the route out presents a very sharp curve. If only there was a bridge that went right across the bay to Superior...

Straight from work, I was not going to miss this rare Saturday working in such lovely conditions. I took a total gamble having no info on what was working it, what the load was or if it was top 'n' tail so I headed here to Holme Island crossing near Meathop. I knew 007 had worked the 6C53 nukes in the morning so my hope was it would trail here, and my gamble paid off swimmingly.

This is the 6C44 Sellafield-Kingmoor conveying one of the mega KUA flasks. 68005 is leading. This slotted in just nicely on my way over to Shap for a brace of 90's.

The mechanical loaders make short work of filling up 66006 at Cwmbargoed, the train will later work out as 6C94 15:45 Cwmbargoed Opencast Colliery to Margam Terminal Complex.
