Three Alaska railroad GP's prepare to load out the rest of the ARMS barge on a typical Whittier day. Cold, wet, and foggy pretty much sums up this all season port with the original military era housing standing in the background. One of the neat things about the Whittier switch stands is that they all are some how lit at the same time in this shot and no its not photoshopped. After loading is complete these three Gp's will depart under the cover of darkness for Anchorage.

the loading site for wood and wood chips in Arvika is west of the town centre. Hector Rail 841.001(ex-SJ T43) with a train consisting of Innofreight high volume wagons/containers during loading of wood chips. The cargo is bound for the bio fuel energy plant in Värtan.
Yet another picture of my DIY square aperture experiment. Since the square bokeh looks pretty nervous I've tried to frame the marguerite with the darker and smoother part of the bokeh. I've chosen this title since images often look pixelated while being loaded, where the bokeh-squares look to me like big pixels. Hope you like it! HBW!
NS 4713 switches boxcars at Continental Paper Grading Co., one of the last classic customers in the downtown Chicago area. The crew will pull one load of what is some sort of shredded paper/pulp and spot two empties for loading. There is only one loading door at the building that hasn't been bricked up, and so one boxcar is spotted on each of the two tracks parallel to one another so that one can be loaded through the other. The classic brick building was built around 1890 and aquired by Continental Paper in 1932, some 82 years ago. In 2020 CPG continues to ship by rail and work in its 130 year old building on Lumber Street. Chicago, IL
During my 2017 visit back home to Colorado I had some time to spend along the Jointline. It had been a number of years since I had visited and I definitely noticed some changes. Such as this bridge across the tracks in Sedalia, a nice addition for sure. BNSF coal loads climb towards the summit of the Palmer Divide at Palmer Lake. The SD70Ace was a nice bonus.
Green Lacewing (Mallada signatus) larva
I was happy to see this Green Lacewing larva on the Jade Plant. I haven't seen a Green Lacewing for a few years.
You can see the debris on its back as it was scuttling towards the 'hole' between the Jade leaves. They carry the debris as a disguise against predators. In fact until it moved I thought is was just some seed material from the Pittosporum tree.

Still hungry for some trains, we continued to Zeebrugge, hoping to still catch the HSL car train to Germany. We were late though, but there were still some class 66 locos roaming around. We caught RTBC's PB 14 with a car train at the north end of the Pelikaan yard.

CP's Fording River Sub was built for one purpose, to move coal from Fording Coal's three mines to export market. The 32 Mile line, north of Sparwwod BC sees multiple unit coal trains each and every day.
On a warm August afternoon, a southbound loaded train from the Fording Mine passes a counterpart that is finishing loading at the Elkview Mine.
