We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.
“A concise poem about our work as stated elow
A place without being
a thought without thinking
creatively, two dimensions
suspended animation
possibly a perfect imitation
of what was then to see.
A frozen memory in synthetic colour
or black and white instead,
fantasy dreams in magazines
become imbedded inside my head.
Artistic views
surrealistic hues,
a photographer’s instinctive eye:
for he does as he pleases
up to that point he releases,
then develops a visual high.
- M R Abrahams

She's there - under a gathering of dancing bokeh that adds a touch of magic to the frame. Her face, lit by brilliant light, shines in its own wisdom. The negative space moves her forward in the frame giving back some depth the camera inherently removes. The choice of high contrast in post adds drama with the light and hides unnecessary elements in the dark giving full attention to her.

A guy I follow on Instagram does a lot of really awesome vintage postcard looking edits on his photos. So I attempted the same on this shot of Mount Hood I took from the Timberline Lodge parking lot yesterday. I love the way it turned out. The winds were screaming yesterday, I could barely stand up on my own feet to get this photo. You can see the powder blowing off of the mountain in clouds. Also - highly recommend the deluxe hot chocolate inside the Timberline Lodge restaurant.

“Love the trees until their leaves fall off, then encourage them to try again next year.” ― Chad Sugg
A "hidden" hike of sorts. There are no signs denoting it. And conflicting driving instructions can be found a few SW hiking websites. I took the hard way and walked up the cliff face to find these hidden hoodoos right near the Utah / Arizona border, close to Page. With a spanning view of Lake Powell and the surrounding mountains, it's a wonder why this place isn't more popular.

A line of monks leads to the main subject bathed in soft light. Focus directs - patterns and repetition add strength. But it is his eyes that draw mine and hold.

The Rialto Beach hike is a 3 mile out and back along the sand and rocks that make up the coast just north of La Push, WA. What a lot of the trip reports don't tell you is that during high tide, the hike becomes more akin to an obstacle course. Here, my wife sits on one of the many mountains of driftwood as we wait for an opportune moment in the surf to pass to the next part of the trail. While we were waiting here, a family of river otters swam up the creek behind us and fed on some fish not 100 feet from where we were sitting.
