The future was born with the sunrise,
The sunrise that builds into days and even more years.
And as it rolls burning,
Burning up like the trails (of the comets pulled tails)
We'd look around until we find, we find...
- Portugal. The Man

CHECK OUT THE WINTER VERSION OF THIS PHOTO HERE
I woke up 10 minutes before my 5:45AM alarm yesterday morning, already high with anticipation. I was purposefully avoiding work and responsibility for the day to go adventure. My only goal was to see some autumn colors in the Columbia River Gorge. I find myself constantly in the habit of trying to cram too many stops or destinations in and being unable to really soak in where I am and what I'm doing. Having no itinerary or schedule can do wonders for clearing that issue right up.
I spent about an hour and a half roaming around in front of the thundering Wahclella Falls in the Gorge. It's my favorite waterfall in the Gorge, for it's easy access and saturated colors, its moss covered face and turquoise splash pool. After some torrential rains this past weekend, all of the waterfalls were set to maximum flow. The sound and the spray coming off of Wahclella was enough to make you stumble back if you approached it too closely. The splash pool and stream flowing from it were higher than I've seen them. Not that I'm complaining, we desperately need all the rain we can get.
I spent 20 or so minutes setting up and testing out this shot. Got quite a few laughs from other hikers as I would set the 10 second timer and run the 30 or 40 feet around a tree and jump up on this rock just in time for the shutter to close. Only to run back and check the results.

Digging through my archives and pulling up hidden gems from months ago. Loved this kinda overexposed shot from my second trip to Antelope Canyon back in May. Not original in any sense, but I love the tones. I just printed a couple on metallic paper and it looks unreal.

A photographer's dream. There's certainly no shortage of photos of Antelope Canyon. But it's something you truly need to experience in your life. It doesn't look real, even when the walls are a foot in front of your face and you're breathing in all the sand floating in the air. I paid the premium for the "Photographer Tour". A 2 hour, guide led excursion through the quarter mile canyon. Only one other gentlemen was in my group. And his memory card was full from his morning's adventures. So I basically had the rooms and lightbeams to myself for the afternoon. It was magical.

"What does it mean that I am in this endless universe, thinking that I'm a man sitting under the stars on the terrace of the earth, but actually empty and awake throughout the emptiness and awakedness of everything?
It means that I'm empty and awake, that I know I'm empty and awake, and that there's no difference between me and anything else" 🗻💦 — Kerouac, The Dharma Bums

Lower Antelope Canyon, Page, Arizona
Whew! Sorry I went AWOL for a couple weeks. I disappeared to Utah to wander the desert in a GoWesty pop up camper van. I hit Arches, Bryce, Canyonlands, Zion, Page, Vermillion Cliffs, and so much more. I’m back now. With loads of pictures to share. Hope you don’t mind.
