"Back off, I work alone"

In this piece I have been exploring the idea of creating the visual interest in a wood engraving not entirely through the marks made by the graver but also through thinking about boundaries around area of mark making. The effect has been an assemblage or collage feel to the piece when it is of course printed from boxwood. I have been trying to get more of an abstract expressionist feel into wood engraving by including dribbles and scratches and other marks suggestive of speed when of course, wood engravings are very slow to produce.

special agent dale cooper, I love you.

I made this picture too small and the linework looks a little distorted, but it's not. I promise!

Finished the owl mostly. Gonna add smoke gloops and then the linework should be all done.

Also, I think I have slight insomnia now. Also insomnia has SOMNI in it...which is almost like SONMI. Conspiracy? I think so.

Season's Greetings and Best Wishes to you all dear friends!

Thank you very much for your generous comments and support on my stream for another year, that has steamed past faster than my shutter can blink! Your wonderful work has been most inspiring in it's creativity, and your presence so very encouraging when I feel uninspired with my own efforts.

As a departure from photography, the above image is a publishing magazine illustration I created several years ago - like photography, the process of creation was always challenging and immensely enjoyable. Here's to 2015! Cheers!

This wood art panel is softer, so the line is a little mushier.

Pin-up poster created for the Spera Anthology.

I love medieval beasts and Youkai. Hieronymus Bosch is a huge influence too.

I love how Gustave Doré creates his lines in his work, and all of this has influenced this piece.

obviously was time to do Tom...a fellow artist who posts artwork in the JKPP and in other sites on flickr....i am a fan of his portraits for the colors and linework that he does...

here's a little watercolor ATC portrait of him that i've attempted.

This was my wall at Pranzo Pizza during the Urban Solutions art walk this past Friday (10/14).

The art walk took place in and around several businesses on 6th street...it went all the way from Market street to Howard.

Part of a series of studies proposing new architectural surfaces. This is a grid of nested hexagons with linework radiating from the center of each module. It was designed, drawn and fabricated digitally. The material is mdf milled with a CNC router.

'Your species by Su_G' in an Isobar wallpaper mockup (c/o Roostery)

Featuring sketchy line-work profiles of endangered animals (jaguar, snow leopard, polar bear, bonobo) & human babies/ toddlers... childhood surely almost as endangered as many of these animals... such as the bonobo, who, along with the chimpanzee, is our closest surviving relative, timid, and not well studied as well as endangered.

Here it is! Almost finished, I still have to go back to get some color and lines re-done. Because of an accident and a very busy workschedule I just couldn't find the time to go.

I'm so glad I finally got it. :)

It took 5 hours in total. Done by Cute Karin at Inkstition. (Rotterdam - The Netherlands) I really recommend her, she's supercute!

Drawn mostly at afternoon break, about fifteen minutes, with a bit of linework added at the end of the afternoon, which may help explain why I got the perspective wrong on the bench. I added colours from memory afterwards. To the side of the sink are bottles of drinking water that the children are allowed to have access to during the day. We had to make do with a drink at lunch or from a water fountain by the headteacher's office. I may set this scene as a subject for the new sketching group in the school, the last group did well with subjects like bookcases and doors.

The Diva's weekly challenge #80, to use a tangle called Mi2 !Mi2! I was thrilled that Laura chose this tangle, (from creator, Mimi Lempart) it's one of my favourites. I find I have a hard time giving it a dainty/refined look no matter how many times I try. On the weekend I purchased a Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph pen and some ink. This page was made entirely using this pen, so I am still learning what the pen and ink can do. I've heard these pens can last for years with the right care and the ink is inexpensive. The initial cost can be expensive and at first I found myself wondering why I would bother, but I am really liking the flow of the pen and ink, and am glad I did it.
