This is a cartoon I had made in the 12th Grade back in 1984 while I was supposed to be working on my classwork. I like the cop car on the edge of going over the edge. Pencil drawing on scratch paper, then scanned and slightly darkened.

One of the real architectural landmarks of Streatham, the florid high Victorian frontage of the old White Lion Inn. Colour version to follow later, but the pure black and white line drawing has a certain quality that I like.

The day before The Seagull opened on Broadway, Walter Winchell’s infamous gossip

column reported that the Lunts were getting a divorce! Lynn and Alfred were in a cab the day before, with the windows down, running lines from the play — “Let me be free!” Alfred implored. “Are you really so much in love?” pleaded Lynn. “I’m drawn to her,” replied Alfred, with resignation, “It may be just what I need.” — A man standing on a corner heard them, thought he had a scoop, and called Winchell to report that the Lunts had broken their vows. The Lunts were thrilled that their fight was so believable. . . and they weren’t too upset with the extra preopening publicity.

I'm one of those people for whom paradox is not a favourite. But I'm glad I gave it a go as I'm quite pleased with the result. Hooray for the challenges to push our boundaries!

Digital sketch

I did these sketches for the credits for an animation my friend Aaron has been working on using He's Got the Whole World in His Flan and another, as yet unposted drawing of the same style as "Flan". I'll likely post the other drawing when the animation is available for public consumption.

Officially turning into winter here in Wellington, New Zealand. It's been raining, windy, and cold, so I'll be doing plenty of indoor drawing for the next little while. Have been nursing a cold for the last week so productivity has been at an all-time low. Time to catch up!

Line drawing done in SketchTime, traced from an outstanding black and white photograph that also includes another person with an important but subtle expression that I couldn't get right, so I had to leave her out of this drawing. Here's the photograph: www.flickr.com/photos/89134433@N00/3100417317/
