Always wanted to get one of those "Tree blocking out the sun with bright rays of light" shots.
This is the image that propelled my career.
It was taken on a frigid 7-degree afternoon in January 2009, as I walked through knee-deep snow along Lake Ontario. The sun was rapidly setting, so I dove into the snow to take a dozen shots before it sank below the horizon.
This photograph has been published in 2 coffee-table books; a college textbook; a Rochester, NY photography gallery [home of George Eastman and Kodak]; and an international contest of which I won my first DSLR.
All thanks to the praise and compliments of online strangers such as yourself.
P.S.--This photo was selected as the Grand Prize winning image for Studio414's February 23rd Photography Contest! It can also be seen published on OpenArticleSubmission.com in "Thinking About a Career Change – How to Decide"Thank you all for appreciating and encouraging my work, giving me the confidence to enter it in the contest to begin with.
From the Forest Park Velika and Mala Petka in Dubrovnik, you can get a remarkable view of the Adriatic Coast and the adorable "Croissant Islands" at sunset. A worth detour for any trip to the old town of Dubrovnik.
Beautiful clouds last month when we were walking at Lindo Lake in Lakeside, California. It has the elements that I always look for, but don't always get, clouds vegetation and water.
I've been doing infrared photography since 2002, and other infrared images that I've posted on Flickr can be seen in my creatively named Infrared album which has over 700 images in it.

I used NIK Software's Silver Efex Pro 2 to convert the infrared image to black and white. I have an album with over 200 black and white images in my Black And White Album.

This is the interior view of the upper (fourth) level of the Arbed Steel Works at the Terres Rouges industrial site on the French-Luxembourg border. The building dates from 1900-1920. It was taken at sunset. I left this place covered head to toe in red iron ore dust...
More from Italy, France, and Luxembourg coming soon. In the meantime check out gsgblog for interesting photo series and stories & culture from Detroit and beyond.

Autumn sunset can be quite dramatic in the Salish Sea area of western Washington state. This shot was taken from Lummi Island looking west towards Orcas Island.

View across Lake Geneva from Montreux, Switzerland. This image and "Shades of Yellow" are of the same view, taken from different times of the day to show how the light differed.
This shot has been tweaked specifically to bring out the light rays and make it a more punchy as a black and white image as the original image was a little flat.

Last Sunday morning must have been the best morning ever for sun ray shots. Truly amazing. The sun was much higher in the sky since the dense fog first had to dissolve. When the sun started to peek through.. simply amazing! I will upload a few more later this week. It was so difficult to decide which one to post first.
When you look through the car's window and see the magnificent beauty of a sweet light bending itself on the curves of a green mountain. This is mother nature telling us to enjoy our lives.
