Incandescent light bulbs at The Grey Plume. The fixtures are made out of recycled material.

Lighting: Nikon SB-26 (flash) camera left triggered by the sound of the bulb breaking (pop!) using a HiViz sound trigger circuit. It took three tries to get this one. I had two problems, actually three:

First, I tried dropping the bulb onto a sheet of black acrylic plastic (to get a nice reflection), but the bulb only bounced, so I had to switch to a black ceramic tile. Not ideal, but it worked.

Second, I initially placed the sound trigger about a foot from the bulb, which resulted in capturing the break about a millisecond (1/1000 of a second ... the time it takes sound to travel about a foot) after it hit the tile. That wasn't long enough to actually see the bulb shattering, so I had to move the trigger back about three feet. That gave the glass a little more time to do its thing.

Third, I was getting a 2nd flash when the screwy thing on the end of the bulb hit the table. To fix that, I tied a fishing line to the screwy thing that was just long enough for the bulb to hit the table, but just short enough to keep the screwy thing from hitting. End result: One flash (one exposure) and not two.

A lightbulb - Taken under artifical light (hence reflections of ceiling lamp and computer screen in glass). To get the filament to glow I turned the lamp on, let it warm up and then switched it off just before opening the shutter so that the camera captured the glow as it cooled - not to be recomended if you get frustrated easily!

As part of going green, I changed all my basement lightbulbs to energy-saving bulbs. Since I have many basement bulbs, my basement comprising three large rooms and one smaller one, that's a good savings.

Taken in a studio at college as part of my course work. Controlling reflections. It was really quite tricky to get the right reflections. Had the lamp plugged into a dimmer and Bowens flash large softbox behind with black card placed between.

Well, I have to be honest, I was not expecting this when I stuck the bulb up a Granny Smith. I love the green glow around on the white card background :)

As it was lousy weather today, I stayed in and had a bit of fun with flashguns.

Flash on right and left equal 1/32. Reflector on front left and yellow snoot front at 1/8. Ambient kept low for dark background, using small aperture about f13 and 1/250 on the shutter

Shot top and bottom separately, then joined them in CS6 afterwards.

One from Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. I really loved all the automata and pretty decorations on the various stalls.
