The burning filament in a lightbulb. A hole was drilled in the bulb to let the air in to let the filament burn in a few seconds.

Here's a bright idea!!! Let's go digging!!!

Cleveland, OH, July 24, 2008

I don't write like a child, I just wrote it quickly. Seriously.

This Coco's has not yet switched to the more environmentally conscious compact flourescent bulbs.

This was the sharpest I could manage. It was a very cold night and I had to take the shot quickly. I also forgot to open the aperture to f1.8 (for some odd reason?). I liked it a lot though! This was taken at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto. They have a nice display of Christmas lights up, especially around the outdoor skating rink. This is my younger brother. I also took one of my older brother but it's slightly soft.

I hope it displays properly on some screens. The highlights on the face can look strange on some monitors :\

Anyways, I'm back at school (unfortunately). But I had an amazing Christmas break!

Pull the chord....see what happens.

Richard Box' artistic display of 1301 fluorescent bulbs lit by the overhead high-power lines -- just from the ambient energy surrounding the lines.

Wireless transmission (intentional) and fluorescent bulbs were both invented by Nikola Tesla.

The fluorescent bulbs of Richard Box's display, "planted" in the ground to pick up "waste emissions from the overhead power lines", are in effect acting as wireless transformers as well, providing a graphic depiction of a phenomenon that could actually shed additional light on the mode of action of these other energy devices.

Box says, "There's sound as well as light - a crackling that corresponds to the flashing of the lights. There's a certain smell too, and your hair stands slightly on end."

Though the shows are at night, when the effect can be seen best, the fluorescent tubes are lit continuously, depending on the whether conditions. The dryer the air, the more the tubes act to collect the ambient energy. Humid air acts as a conductor to ground, tending to bypass the tubes.

The reflection of a light bulb in a glass of milk.

Night Light, Some small speakeasy, Midtown, Reno, NV

I had a spare hollowed out lightbulb from another project, so I looked on Instructables to find a good way to use it for a xmas present for my mum.

Just got an idea

There were quite a lot of lightbulbs hanging where they were left.

one of the pond lights, very close up.

Whenever I install new light bulbs, I always write the date on the light bulb, so I can know how long it lasted. Since I'm writing a date on the bulb, I also usually write something about how old the kids are, or what is happening in their lives at the moment. (I was putting three bulbs into Julia's room). If the text is too small to read, here's what each bulb says:

Bulb 1: Feb 27, 2023. Julia 6 years. Evelyn 3 years.

Bulb 2: Feb 27, 2023: Julia 1st grade. Evelyn PK-3.

Bulb 3: Feb 27, 2023: Evelyn about to move into Julia's room.

the lightbulb doesn't know where to shine, he's all out of whack, and all out of time.

These characters hover between traditional realism and cartoons, and feel uncanny in a half-real way like that for me too. They inhabited my daydreams as a child, and then again as an adult after I did a year in Afghanistan. Jung called myths "psychological stories," which completely resonates with me, and similar to the Trickster myth, these creatures represent something cryptic and mythical.
