CORAL SEA (Aug. 11, 2017) A CH-53E Super Stallion assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 265 (Reinforced) takes off from the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) as part of an embassy reinforcement simulation during a certification exercise (CERTEX). Bonhomme Richard, flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group, is supporting a CERTEX that will evaluate the 31st MEU on crisis response operations for a number of potential contingencies. CERTEX, taking place off the coast of and within Australia’s Shoalwater Bay Training Area, will test the MEU’s ability to conduct all of its core missions such as stability operations, non-combatant evacuation and disaster relief. The TXII is a hackney carriage (London hail taxi) manufactured by LTI. It is the second model following the modernisation and re-design of the London taxi which began with the TX1
The vehicle has a handful of differences from its predecessor including a change of engine from Nissan to the Ford Duratorq, which, according to the manufacturer increases torque by 21%. The remaining modifications are largely cosmetic or are minor improvements to the design and equipment on the TX1.
TXII, which was introduced in 2002. It is powered by a Ford Dura Torq 2.4-litre diesel engine and features an integral, fold-down ramp for wheelchairs. It also has an intermediate step and swivel-out seat for passengers with moderate walking difficulties. For people with hearing problems it has an induction loop incorporated in the intercom system.
