Several Learning in Retirement members drove 107 miles south of I-75 to Micanopy, Florida to visit Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park. We first stopped at the Visitor Center to view an informative video, saw specimens of animals in the park: Buffalo, Deer, Eagle, Sandhill Crane, Florida Water Rat, and Grey Fox. In addition we were able to view wild horses in the distance from the back porch of the Visitor Center and heard a woodpecker knocking on a tree. Next we drove north on US 441 to a wildlife observation boardwalk where we saw Buzzards, Snowy Egrets, Sandhill Cranes, and an Eagle. Next we parked at Bolan Bluff Trail and hiked for 1.3 miles round trip. We saw very large Live Oak trees, palmetto bushes, palm tree, an orange tree, wildflowers, and fungi. Then we drove into the Historic Township of Micanopy for lunch. We parked on the quaint street lined with vintage shops full of antiques and unique items. We wandered into the Old Florida Café and managed to find a table, ordered Cuban and Reuben sandwiches with chili and settled down amongst the myriad of antiques. We topped off the meal with Key Lime pie. Finally we drove through Micanopy Cemetery where the first burial occurred in 1826. Tired, but satisfied we drove back to Valdosta State University with new knowledge and fond memories.

The beautiful Moat Garden will be the setting for our biggest family event ever: a festival to celebrate The Queen's 90th birthday. Join us for a full day of events, including storytelling with our popular storyteller Olivia, telling tales of The Queen, live 1950s music, knights, soldiers, a local school band and children's entertainers. This is the general outline I am using to train my teachers about breaking down large projects into parts using web 2.0 tech. Popplet is collaborative up to 10 users. We love it. It can do so much more than what is seen here.
Counselors Katelyn Corsino, Justin Robinson, and Kyra Kennedy along with volunteers Karinelis Ayala, Rainey Cox, Sara Rosenburg, and Tony Perez celebrate with their team The A-Team.

I had the privilege of being able to stand on the sidelines and take pictures of the Lee County HS girl's soccer team (on which my daughter is the assistant coach). Although the quality of these photos is not the greatest (night game, "low shutter speed"), they can serve the purpose to help educate minor details to help the girls play a more fulfilling match.
Frame 2 of 2 - defender closes, noting she does not have tight control of the ball. Since she does not know the other two players are open, she tries (unsuccessfully) to work her way around the defender. Communication with your teammates is key!
As always, thanks for your views, comments and faves!
