"The three lava flows visible from this point are from the southwest rift of Mauna Loa. The darker or younger lava flow surrounding this point is from the 1907 eruption and the lighter colored lava down slope is believed to be 750-1,500 years old. The dark flow east of this location is from an 1887 eruption. These three flows are all the 'a'a (rough or clinker) and not pahoehoe (smooth or ropy) lava. The older lava flows are lighter in color and generally have larger 'ohi'a lehua trees.
If you look closely you will find few 'ohi'a lehua trees growing in the 1907 flow"
I visited Kentucky the past couple weeks. Though it was late summer, there was still a lot of color to be found at the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens at the Pritchard Community Center in Elizabethtown.

A true demonstration of LA haze. As you look further into the distance, less detail can be resolved, until you reach the last mountain range, which is as smooth as sherbet.
This was taken half way up Mt. Lukens, and one of the most vibrant sunsets I have ever seen! Happy Tuesday!
There is many different layers to me, you are and will forever be what you give to me..... You can choose to kiss my ass, capture my heart, or stare from the sidelines one or the other all up too you......
This might be my favorite winter photo yet. This is a single exposure taken at sunset in the Central Cascades near Snoqualmie Pass, WA.
The layering in the mountains and the dappled light really drew me to this particular area. Hope you enjoy it!
Shot for Macro Mondays 'Layer'.
18 shots blended in ZereneStacker. A biscuit laying on my phone as a mirror and with an iridescent jug behind, lit with a bike light.

Looking west from Volcan Mountain in Julian towards Catalina Island on the horizon at sunset, almost 100 miles away.
The 3/30/20 theme for Macro Mondays is Layers. This is the edge of a slab of sandstone that has "Gratitude" etched into the top, which my wife Sammy keeps on her bureau top.

“Layers, Morning Light” — Early mornign light highlights layers of gullies and ridges in the Death Valley landscape.
Yes, yet another photograph of these well-known formations in Death Valley. Hey, I don’t photograph this specific spot that often these days, so maybe I can be excused for working it to death on this one unexpected visit? This is a small section of a larger badlands landscape that lies around and below this popular sunrise location in the park.
If you are interested — and if you follow me regularly — you can get a sort of overview of how the light changes on these features in the morning by looking at the series of photographs. I started before sunrise, continued as the sun hit nearby features and cast soft light into the scene, and finished up only as the first direct light (fortunately softened a bit my thin clouds) spread across the area.

We initially parked here to check out a really cool overlook. Behind where I stood to take this photo, there is a short trail that leads to a cliff overlooking a river and pines in the valley below.
After I got my photos there, I realized that the view in our direction of travel was also beautiful. More than that, it was something I could figure out how to compose, haha. I love the layers of this landscape and how they zig-zag up into the sky.
