Know what happens when you live with a biologist? They bring home weird dead things! And then take them apart!
Some dead things are deader than others. This poor barn owl played head-butt with a car tire (thats the head you are looking at on the left), which makes is pretty dead.
Lessons learned from the days dissection:
-Owls talons seem to be in a naturally contracted position, which probably helps them grab prey. It is faster to move a limb to its natural position rather than a flexion or extension of it.
-Unfortunately the poor guy was busted up pretty bad, I was hoping to discuss the neck anatomy with my roommate (who is big into kinetics). The only intact portions were the legs.
Birds of prey get hit by cars pretty often, as they go down to get road kill. So don't go for road kill, or else you will get hit by a... wait a minute...
I know I have been uploading a lot of shots of Turnstones of late but I have been shooting them a lot because there probably my favourite water bird and there is a lot of them around:) Hope you guys like the shot!!! I know this is strange but my mum keeps the obituaries from the local paper when my dad died and I wanted to include this in my book. I've used a gel medium to both glue them to the page and also seal them to hopefully protect them and have added stitch and some lace behind a cutwork circle.
These 2 pieces form 1 signature in the book which I've kept just black & white. I'm also incorporating my dad's death certificate in a pocket as its quite a beautiful piece of paper in its own right.
Norio knows today is cooler than he expected so sleeping on a warm blanket with a tunic is just the thing to do. (Even if his nest is under a window...)
I had meant to post this earlier but had difficulties logging in. Flickr customer support was helpful and now I can continue to inflict, er, post more cat pictures...

Not so long ago, I came up with the Golden Ratio Principle which describes why The Golden Ratio is so beautiful.
The Golden Number Ratio Principle: Dr. E’s Golden Ratio Principle: The golden ratio exalts beauty because the number is a characteristic of the mathematically and physically most efficient manners of growth and distribution, on both evolutionary and purely physical levels. The golden ratio ensures that the proportions and structure of that which came before provide the proportions and structure of that which comes after. Robust, ordered growth is naturally associated with health and beauty, and thus we evolved to perceive the golden ratio harmonies as inherently beautiful, as we saw and felt their presence in all vital growth and life—in the salient features and proportions of humans and nature alike, from the distribution of our facial features and bones to the arrangements of petals, leaves, and sunflowers seeds. Ulcerative colitis is a group of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases. This disease is characterized by provocative infection of the colon and rectum. Crohm’s disease is about spreading inflammation from the rectum and on the intestinal mucosa but this disease is limited. 000 inhabitants. Women and men both are affected by this disease in same manner. The average age of people who suffer from this disease is between 20 and 40. After having been increasing in Europe and North America this disease has begun to stagnate there. This disease was not so popular in Asia; Africa and South America. New cases has been increased accordingly today. Ulcerative colitis should not be ignored in anyway and if it is detected at early stages then the Ulcerative colitis treatments might be more effective
Important Ulcerative colitis symptoms:
The course of Ulcerative colitis is not predictable. Often the onset is insidious. There are also severe acute phases and gradients.
Some severe Ulcerative colitis symptoms are:
* Relapsing
* Diarrhea
* Intestinal bleeding
* Colic.
Problematic symptoms in everyday life are:
* Bowel movements that are compulsive and fecal incontinence
* Body weakness
* Administered drugs’ side effects
* Severe bloating can push for increased stool frequency
* The shear-dependent flatulence is part of thrust-related glucose intolerance
Acute exacerbation is a typical symptom of Ulcerative colitis. This disease is characterized by painful urination and bowel movement and bloody diarrhea. Stool rate can go up to 40 times in 24 hours. Wide range of Ulcerative colitis treatments is available that is meant to help
Some common Ulcerative colitis treatments:
There are huge number of drugs available for the Ulcerative colitis treatments but most of them have more or less side effects. As the cancer risk is less and inflammation suppression is more Mesalazine and some other 5-ASA preparations are used as per the medical instructions. The amount of side effect of Mesalazine is minimum. If the 5-ASA is not adequate cortisone is used locally (rectally as enema or foam) or systemic (oral or intravenous) is used for a short time. Budesonide foam is used with other steroid preparations as it only functions locally when the disease is limited. Mesalazine may also be administered rectally. People can get help from E-Coli and Nissle. These pro biotic bacteria can be found in pharmacies in the name of Mutaflor and have been used in remission maintenance in several studies as an effective replacement of 5-ASA preparations. The drug Mutaflor is covered by health insurances. There is a need for cooling of this drug continuously. It is better if you take immediate steps when you notice the Ulcerative colitis symptoms.

The now gone fertilizer plant was not only a mass of pipes and knobs, it also had a command station which did the emergency monitoring. The title of this photo comes from the chart in back - the "Right-to-Know Information Station." As you know, I've been (frantically) working on a project for the #oakshottliparis blog hop. All the details are on my blog today (link in profile), including templates and tips on constructing the blocks and getting a neat finish.
The project is hand pieced (NOT EPP! But you could use EPP if that's your preferred technique *grin*), and will be machine quilted in due course ;o)

You know how it is, you see a dragonfly hunting, you want a picture, but you say they never settle.
It settles.
But you're sitting there under the shelter, can see the dragonfly resting, and you say, no point in going to get the camera as will fly off before I come back.
5 minutes pass.
OK< will go and get the camera, but it'll have flown off before I return.
I return with camera and its still there.
I'll probably disturb it taking the first shot.
I don't.
It stays for over quarter of an hour, I rattle off dozens and dozens of shots.
I am happy, and the dragonfly is happy resting and basking.
That a Virginia Creeper vine can grow up to and over 150 feet. Its berry's are and important food source of food for Songbirds in the Fall and Winter. And most important of all it sure is a wonderful red in the Autumn.

I know it is not the best picture in the world, but I need to know what can be gleaned from it? What branch of the service is this? The man died prior to 1960. Even though blurry, can anyone recognize the medal, or the patches and stripes, etc. This is not my picture; I want to put an appropriate memorial for him, and borrowed the picture long enough to figure out what that would be.

i am considering in cutting my lengthy hair that has been a some kind of bothersome theses pass hot humid days...... i don't know if it is just a phase i am going through and that it will pass, but i am thinking about letting my long locks go. i am here with my hair that is long enough to even have it wrapped around my neck and a half that is clipped with a fifty dollar hair clip, yeah i know what was i thinking when i bought it ..... well i like it long, but it has been a nuisance lately being in my face, eyes, mouth and just the additional weight for my head to be held up...for those with long hair, you guys should know exactly what i am talking about; .... the cost of shampoo and the hair accessories can be much, hair being every where and stuck in the vacuum roller or drain can be a pain, hair almost getting caught in the shreader or caught or stuck in something else where..... gosh there is too much unfortunate things as well as many positive great reasons to have wonderful lovely long hair .
i don't know if i should chop it all off short in a bob and have some good use to it by donating it to, "locks of love", get several inches trimmed, or somekind of style of an layer effect?!?!
.... i am in such a indecisive state and don't want to regret cutting my hair, which yes it is only hair and it can grow back easily....but.... argh...i don't know if i should- let it go
..... hmmm...well i guess i will think more on this with my hair up in a high bun and eat some vanilla icecream ....................
