The Golden Ratio informs a lot of my art and photographic composition. The Golden Ratio also informs the design of the golden revolver on all the swimsuits and lingerie, as well as the 45surf logo! Not so long ago, I came up with the Golden Ratio Principle which describes why The Golden Ratio is so beautiful.
The Golden Number Ratio Principle: Dr. E’s Golden Ratio Principle: The golden ratio exalts beauty because the number is a characteristic of the mathematically and physically most efficient manners of growth and distribution, on both evolutionary and purely physical levels. The golden ratio ensures that the proportions and structure of that which came before provide the proportions and structure of that which comes after. Robust, ordered growth is naturally associated with health and beauty, and thus we evolved to perceive the golden ratio harmonies as inherently beautiful, as we saw and felt their presence in all vital growth and life—in the salient features and proportions of humans and nature alike, from the distribution of our facial features and bones to the arrangements of petals, leaves, and sunflowers seeds. As ratios between Fibonacci Numbers offer the closest whole-number approximations to the golden ratio, and as seeds, cells, leaves, bones, and other physical entities appear in whole numbers, the Fibonacci Numbers oft appear in nature’s elements as “growth’s numbers.” From the dawn of time, humanity sought to salute their gods in art and temples exalting the same proportion by which all their vital sustenance and they themselves had been created—the golden ratio.

UPDATE: My mom just called and let me know that all of the clothes have been washed and are perfectly clean now. Just a few little bobs and buttons fell off while being washed, but everything should be able to be repaired. All of the colors are still bright and strong. I'm going to check them over myself tomorrow to make sure though.
As friends on Twitter already know, I've had a not-so-great day. One of my kitties (Ed) peed inside a huge box full of Blythe clothes, some of my most prized possessions. Hundreds of dollars worth of clothes have been damaged. I immediately called my mom (a miracle worker) and she rushed over here to pick up everything. We're hoping that most of the clothes can be "healed" quickly and easily. -____-
I always keep my clothes covered and protected, except for a few minutes yesterday while I was looking at some of them. Ed must have come into the room when I walked out and did the damage then. *sigh* I love my kitty and I know her well... and I know this was a personal attack on her part. She's sweet a lot of the time, but she's also full of attitude. I scolded her and made sure she knew how upset I was over what she did.
As suggested by my mom, I've decided to remove most of my dollies, Caveys and other toys from my desk. *cries* I loved coming into my hobby room to see it all sitting in front of me so it hurts to see such an empty space. The Caveys are currently sitting on top of my entertainment center (they look very cute there), and my dollies have taken refuge elsewhere. I'm hoping I can return them to their happy desk space in the future once I know it's safer...
All I know is "66 years" and counting. I heard that crossdressing can keep my heart young : I so feel my heart young again. It's very personal, I know. My experience is getting more and more precious as time goes by. And I know I don't want to waste it on meaningless relationships. Who would?

After unpacking the decorations, I made sure Mac was posed for his Xmas special. It was a long winded, frustrating affair, but we got there in the end.

I know not the name of this butterfly. what I do know is that it was a delightful experience going through the life of a butterfly and taking these shots of the beauty from its various stages.
the guy at the butterfly park was very patient enough to show me the various forms, the pupa to the caterpillar stage to the final one here of this yellow spotted beauty tht it takes ..:-)

detroit tour guide extraordinaire allan m insisted that we climb 35 stories up the david broderick tower - apparently, "the nation's tallest abandoned building".
my knees are still shaking but im totally psyched to have gone up there. despite the gazillion particals of airborne dust that we ingested and the freakish moments of "did you hear that", the climb, the exploration and the view at top was incredible.
the david broderick tower aka the eaton tower was built in 1928 by architects kamper and kamper. it was the 2nd tallest building in michigan at the time, housing barber shops, dentist offices and even a radio station. david broderick even had a "sky top club" penthouse on the 33rd floor to entertain elite socialites!!! however, by the mid-80's collapse of detroit's economy, the tower along with its glory days was abandoned to time...

You know, I'm not a fan of collages, but I thought it was best to bore you as little as possible with a sequence of photos, made up of details, so here it is....

You know when fellow photographers say they have been trawling the archives well... I guess you can say this has been dragged back from the abyss...
Taken in 2006 on the Isle Of Man I recall seeing the field of wheat (Barley?) being swept about by the coastal winds, so I got out my flimsy tripod of that time, stuck my Canon 350D on top of it and set it to f/22 to capture all that motion in-front of me and in the skies above.
No NDGrads here just a photographer capturing a really special moment in the early days of his craft and as my mate Jon said when I showed him this shot he said "think sometimes we get too bogged down in the technology" , he could be right.
I know a lot of you have been wondering why I have been out for so long. We poured a new runway all the way around the back yard..
We started in February ordering a lift for the truck to load my electric chair… Well it arrived in due time. Then we ordered a cover for it and they sent the wrong one and we had to reorder.
The docking device for the chair, in order to lift it, was the wrong one and we had to order three more times until we finally got the right one.
As that was not enough then the motor on my lift chair went out and Medicare would not cover it for I had an electric chair. If I have an electric chair, in their book , then I don’t need a lift chair. You try and figure that one out. What a great government we have that is run by such intelligent people. Well I am still waiting on the motor for the chair…It has been 4 weeks now, but being handicap, I don’t really need it.
Oh yes there is more to this story. Vernon flew to Louisiana to see about his Mother and was gone for a week. That left me at home with Mother who is 94 years old.
When he got home we needed groceries and while he was at the grocery we had water lines break We had to turn the water off outside and wait. Poor Guy had bad news when he arrive home. He had some one come out and repair it so we could have water again. A week from that day a crew came and started taking our house apart. They cut hole in every wall and had to replace all the water lines, for the copper pipes they used when we had the house built were so thin. The pipes have since been outlawed. This has been a whole week and our house is still in disarray. Every room has work going on in it except the living room. (three bedrooms, two baths, hall, den, dinning room, kitchen and laundry). They are about through floating it out and are getting ready to paint.
We will be another 2 weeks shampooing the floors and replacing all the furniture and decorations. If I could, I would run away from home. LOL…. Just in case I happen to sound crazy, then just ignore it for I probably am.
Have a wonderful weekend and I will try and survive. In case you believe in pray then say one for me, for I am in real need at this time both physically and mentally.
Norio knows it's the early afternoon and that means it's time to sleep on the couch where the sun shines later in the afternoon. Norio is very weather wise...

I know its cold for some of you.. so i am sharing the love from Florida! The azaleas here dont know whats going on.. one day its cold (50 degrees...lol) and the next it warms up... so some of them blume early. Some pay per view gardens here that are famous for azaleas will actually put ice around the base of the bush so the azaleas dont blume until a certain week when tourist show up.
Amberlyn and Iris are getting to know each other better, having a nice conversation. They both like pink overalls. Amberlyn is wearing her original outfit from ThisisBlythe.com, Iris is wearing handmade short pink corduroy overalls that I bought from the lady at the table next to mine at the doll show. 😀💕

So you know how BluRay's have the slipcovers? Well i made one for "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" I have to admit, i am extremely proud of this!! I went back to the Abandoned Village in Ras Al Khaimah, now that the weather is good and clouds are back, it's really an awesome place to shoot. It is really a ghost town, nobody was there... And by the way, this is my FJ Cruiser :)

Do you know the uncanny valley? This is a theory in robotics and computer animation which states that humans feel more empathy with objects the more human-like they get – but only up to a certain degree. When objects look similar to humans - but not 100% - they become increasingly scary. Only when robots and computer animations become almost undistinguishable from real human beings we can feel compassion with them again.
Examples to illustrate this often include an industrial robot (not human-like at all, no compassion), a teddy-bear (more human looking and cute) and Pixar's toy-story-characters (we have sympathy with them and think we understand their emotions). But animations that resemble humans even more don't evoke positive feelings, but increasingly frighten the viewer (films like "The Polar Express" and Spielberg's terrible "Tintin" are often mentioned – I think Second Life is another good example). I have seen some humanoid robots that frighted me. But then, the theory states, compassion will go up again when the objects become even more realistic and the curve reaches its maximum with real people, after having gone through the "uncanny valley".
The prosthetic hand is another often quoted example. And I can confirm from my own experience that it can be shocking to meet someone with a plastic hand, even when it's well made. It would have been better if they had just given him a hook of the kind that pirates have in films and comics.
The theory is disputed and research doesn't provide clear results as to where the valley actually is and why it exists. Some psychologists say that it describes a mix of unrelated phenomena. For myself I can say that I became more aware of it since I know the expression. Maybe because then I realised that it's not my problem but other people are feeling the same way. Or maybe it wasn't a problem at all before I knew its name?
When you google "uncanny valley" you can find diagrams of the curve going up smoothly until it reaches a maximum, then it goes down steeply into the valley and at its very right-hand side it goes up again, even more steeply, until it finally reaches its maximum with the "healthy human being". The diagrams usually show good illustrations for the first part of the curve until it reaches the depth of the valley, but there are rarely any examples for the part when the curve goes up again in the end. So maybe it's not a valley, but a cliff? Maybe it's not possible to simulate human beings to a convincing degree at all?
This reminds me of a similar theory where experts are hoping for a turn-around when their technology advances in the future. That is the island of stability, a concept of physics and chemistry. As the chemical elements at the bottom of the periodic table get heavier and heavier they also become more instable. Once you get past uranium the elements disappear quickly in your Petri dish thanks to radioactive decay. Scientists have succeeded in creating atoms with up to 118 protons, but the stuff has a half-life of less than a millisecond. Now some of them hope that if they can create even heavier elements they may reach a point where the atoms become more permanent again. Maybe stable enough to be useful for something other than watching them vanish. It is a hope, but nobody knows for sure.
I have a similar hope on some of my cycling adventures. Some countryside roads become rougher and rougher the further you get away from the cities and towns. Some turn from tarmac to concrete, from concrete gravel and then dust or mud the deeper you go into the wilderness, until they become almost unmanageable for the bicycle. But when the landscape is beautiful I keep on riding, hoping the surface may improve later. And in rare cases my hope for an "island of stability" gets fulfilled.
Have you ever observed that certain phenomena become more obvious when you know a name for them? It's quite common – someone should give it a name!
One of the beauties of Open Doors Day is that you can discover something you did not know about. I did not know this building existed, it is hidden away. It was interesting to visit here simply to admire the impressive collection of books many the original 1787 stock, the two ladies on duty had made an effort to make it an enjoyable visit. Every year Aberdeen Open Doors Day Committee comprising representatives from Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeen Civic Society and the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland, organise an event where the public can get into some of buildings round about the city that are normally closed to the public. The society itself has been in existence for some 450 years, this hall was designed by James Matthews. The hall is a nice long room, with a large table it has all the attributes you would expect if you were visiting a period library.
Locally people know this as BYT, The Big Yellow Thing, and according to my niece some of her fellow students refer to it as Archimedes’ Balls. It has an official title ‘Galway Yellow’ and was presented to the University by P.J. Carrol & Co. Ltd., along with the Arts Council. Since then it has been placed on Galway City Council’s protected structure list. While that might surprise many of those who pass by the sculpture every day, it’s worth remembering that, as a representative example of King’s early work and of ‘modern’ Irish art in the 1970s more generally, Galway Yellow has a value beyond the intrinsic merits of the piece itself.
Brian King was born in Dublin in 1942, he studied in the National college of Art and Design in Dublin , where he lectured for a number of years and, and then became the Head of the Department of Sculpture from 1984–2004.
He participated in the Irish Exhibition of Living Art from 1964 to 1978, won the Carroll’s Award 1965, And served as its President for the last ten years. In 1969 and 1983 he represented Ireland at the Paris Biennale, on the former occasion becoming the first Irish artist to win the major individual prize. His public commissions are typically large-scale metal sculptures in an abstract, minimalist style, based on simple geometric forms.
Solo exhibitions include Dawson Gallery, Dublin (1968,74,75); Ulster Museum , Belfast (1973); Project Arts Gallery, Dublin (1980); Taylor Galleries , Dublin (1979, 82,88,90) and the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin (1982). He has participated in major group exhibitions across Ireland and Europe, and his work is held in public collections including The Hugh Lane Gallery of Modern Art, Dublin; Crawford Municipal Gallery, Cork; RTE; Bank of Ireland; Allied Irish Bank; University of Ulster and University College, Dublin, and Farmleigh House, Dublin.
I know this has been done before, but here is my rendition of the Statue of Boadicea by Thomas Thorncroft juxtaposed against Big Ben. I was determined to just spend the day with my telephoto lens and not continually swap, so this fills the screen a little more than others do.
