Just me? :3 I spent most of today reading a story about a famous someone's teen years. No, not a "modern" celebrity.

Dealer was Stewart Auto Sales Co., 1441 Bush Street, San Francisco.

"The Acme Motor Car Company sold its site and plant to J H Sternbergh for $72,100 in May 1911.[1] Sternbergh in turn sold the Acme Motor Car Company and leased it plant to a New York consortium. The company's name was changed to SGV.[2] Sternbrgh died in March 1913.[3]
SGV was short for Sternberg, Graham, and Valentine the owners of the company. In 1911 they built 9 models.[4] By 1916 the company had fallen deeply into debt and was wound up.[5]
Several sources state that the SGV line was taken over by R J Metzler's Phianna Motor Company and renamed as Phianna, with production moving to Newark, New Jersey in 1916.[6][7] The 1916 Phianna was a $3,600 town car.[8]"
Don't know what more to say, these last months are the hardest of my life, I still feel like I lost my mind.
Lately I've been watching a movie called "Her", and it's surely one of the best movie I ever seen, don't know if I'm 100% objective about it cause of what I did recently, but it's definitely going to change my vision of all this.
(by the way, I really insist, the movie is great, the music and the atmosphere is really touchy but still funny and honest)

Colors. You know, bees are so interesting sometimes. Here is Hylaeus pictipes. Jason Gibbs found this species up in Ontario, Canada where it did not belong since it is a bee of the Old World. Then Paige Hickman and Beth Choate from Meadville, Pennsylvania brought in some bees to ID and they had a mysterious series of Hylaeus that did not fit any of the descriptions and after conferring with Jason, we figured out that they were, indeed, also H. pictipes, soon, perhaps they will be in your neighborhood. Having a little fun with some of these pictures with the Wing Interference Patterns photoshopped up from the male's wings. Photgraphs by our own Kelly Graninger.

i do not know what this writing means, or why it's there, on the massive embankment of a railroad bridge approach, but i want to travel the country, painting neatly cryptic messages on great structures from the past that mean something to others similarly interested.
You know for sure that you've spent the last ten days with avid birders when, at the sight of this, you not just get your camera out and say to each other "look, a bird". No, instead you've got your camera ready with the longest lens available and the correct settings and you tell each other "look, a Red-necked phalarope". :o)
Okay, to be honest the naming bit is far easier in German (and Icelandic) as this bird is called "Odins Chick".
As you may know, my primary source when preparing a trip to discover the most fascinating Romanesque monuments in France (and elsewhere) is the Zodiaque collection of books, published between 1950 and 2000 by the Benedictine monks of La Pierre-qui-Vire in Burgundy, under the ægis of (and with photographs by) my mentor Dom Angelico Surchamp, osb. The Languedoc roman volume in that collection mentioned this isolated church of which I had never heard but which was conveniently located right next to the spa resort of Lamalou-les-Bains in the département of Hérault.
I say “conveniently” because, to tell you the truth, the real, primary purpose for which I drove down to Languedoc in November 2022 was not to photograph Romanesque churches (although that would obviously be a welcome complement), but to bring my beloved Revox B77 Mark II tape deck to a competent “fixer” who lived in a village not far from Lamalou. Months ago, I had stupidly broken one of the façade switches, and now the sick boy had to be taken to a healer to be fixed. And while the artisan was doing his thing on the Revox, I got to drive around and see beautiful old stones...
Back to the main matter, the church we are visiting today was built on the remains of an early Christian sanctuary built around the late 300s on the Gallo-Roman site of Rhèdes (traces of it have been found by archæologists). Then, in 551 (there is a most rare written trace), a new church was ordered to be built over the primitive one by “a King of France” whose name is not mentioned —and of course, “France” did not exist as such at that time.
That church was then donated to the Benedictine abbey of Villemagne at a date unknown, but it is mentioned in the last will and testament of Guillaume, viscount of Béziers and Agde († 990 AD), and again in 1153 as a priory of Villemagne.
Stylistically, the church we see today belongs to the First Romanesque Art of the 11th century, but there are indications of an earlier construction date for some parts of it, probably around Year 1000 or even before that milestone. It is a simple yet ample church, very old but beautifully preserved and restored, with none of the absurd excesses of the 19th century. It has been listed as a Historic Landmark since 1880 and the acoustics are so good there are many concerts of all kinds of music during the Summer season. It has been deconsecrated at some point but I haven’t found the exact date.
The remarkable medium to large apparel and the two-tier bench running around the sides of the nave are reminiscent of monuments older than Year 1000, but that remains my personal assessment, as there is no written or other evidence backing it up.

We both ‘knows’ it’s late Sunday. Been disconnected this weekend but happy to report that means I got 2 rooms painted and a lot of furniture re-assigning happened. productive but fast weekend

That you can make a tasty meal for your family with whatever odds and ends you find lying around. The modern housewife recognizes that nothing need be wasted and will find creative ways to put common household items to use.
AND....When she gets her first DSLR ever, she knows she won't need those pesky film cameras any more!! This is my celebratory shot for my 52 weeks. Some of you know how insanely frustrated I have been with the cameras you see before you...well, mostly with the fact that no one developes film anymore, and I don't have the money or space to do it myself. For months it has been getting worse, so I decided that I would symbolically "cut ties" with my film cameras. At least for now. I'm sure I'll use them again, but I need to wait till it can be fun again and not frustrating. For now, YAY!

You may know my story of the nemesis bird, the Belted Kingfisher. Well, this one parallels the BK except that I had exceptional luck in a three day period at Mt. Rainier, and there's a reason which I actually came out with one great (see next) image, and two more than acceptable: Belted kingfishers eat fish, and dive. I can't offer a BK a fish and have him hop over an take it.
The Steller's Jays - especially in national parks (Rainier, Sequoia, Yosemite, Kings Canyon in particular) - are jays. Jays are partial to human handouts and are extreme opportunists. They will swoop in, grab anything from a piece of bread to a grape or potato stick, and fly off with it to the innards of any pine, redwood, or worse, scrub oak where they are inaccessible.
Will I stop trying? No. There's always a better perch, better light, and the sheer enjoyment of the chase and driving Tom crazy. But this is the last one, Tom. I can't rub it in any more. Besides, this one was almost too close and was just curious about, not a piece of food, but a UV filter that I had lying on the table. Or, he was ready for his closeup Mr. Demille.

The Big Hoot captured the imagination of everyone in Birmingham and beyond, with hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets with their Big Hoot Trail maps to explore the colourful invasion of individually designed owls. Taking in the city’s 10 districts, tourists and residents alike enjoyed their owl adventure, discovering and celebrating the extraordinary creativity produced by many of Birmingham’s artistic community and over 25,000 young people.
The Big Hoot owls went under the hammer on 15 October 2015 at The Big Hoot auction sponsored by Vodafone and we are thrilled to have smashed our target by raising the incredible sum of £508,035!
The money raised from the auction will support Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity’s £3.65m Star Appeal. This appeal will enable us to create a first of its kind, a Rare Diseases Centre in the UK specifically for children. It will provide co-ordinated care, treatment, support and most importantly hope to children and families living with a rare or undiagnosed condition.
In addition the auction raised £15,000 for G’owl’d by Temper with proceeds going to Edward’s Trust, and £7,800 for Fleet and Free with proceeds going to Birchfield Harriers.

For five months artists have been creating owls in their studios, at home and in The Big Hoot Artists’ Studio at the Custard Factory in Digbeth. Their inspiring and innovative designs have been realised in genres including graffiti, illustration, fine art, graphics, typography, mosaic and new media. They have worked with both community groups and with corporates to realise ideas and create their stunning designs.
The Big Hoot not only provides a high quality and ambitious free public event for families but also supports the creativity of artists and celebrates talent and diversity. The Big Hoot has provided an inspiring relationship between the city and the arts.
The artists have also reached out to communities enabling more people to participate in the arts, to experience working with professional artists and to be inspiring and inspired. From the north to the south of the city residents groups, youth groups and older peoples’ groups have been collaborating with artists to generate ideas, design and create owls for The Big Hoot.
Creativity is everywhere but the opportunity to participate is not. A range of activities have been programmed within Birmingham’s diverse communities and people from the age of 3 – 97 and from wards within the city boundaries have contributed to The Big Hoot and helped make the event extraordinary. Our projects have seen artists working with hundreds of residents and community members including children in looked after care, older peoples’ clubs, young people and residents organisations to design and decorate the owls displayed as part of the 10 week public event.
Norio knows that it's time to go home after his treatment and "why aren't we going right now?". Poor Norio had to have his claws trimmed. Coincidentally, a dog was in the waiting room and barking loudly, which gave lots of stress to poor Norio, adding to the stress of having his claws trimmed. It took three of us to restrain him and the vet trimmed Norio's claws very quickly.
Norio knows it's a bit cooler in the house. We took down the insulation yesterday but kept a warm tunic on him last night. We also provided him with a warming disc if he wanted it. He was happy in the morning, however, when I fed him a small snack.
I know I should call him "His Honor" but I only do that for my caste. Clearly he assumes all constituents are on lower castes. Certainly, no one other than white and male are on a the caste below him and only the stupid-right at that. Our town got gerrymandered into the Fourth District so they could dilute the effect of the educated university crowd. The stupe declared war on the endangered species list and that's more than just the dwindling middle class and mankind itself. "The only good animals are those being farmed!" That's been pretty darn obvious since his dad was caught frolicking in the pig pen! He certainly includes all of the constituents as animals to be farmed for profit. The only "wildlife" that holds his interest is inside the Beltway.
I posted this shot as an "action" shot because this is as active as the congressional right ever gets: all air time. It's clear that we need time clocks installed in congress and they need to report to the internet. We are getting hog swill for our money. If the congressional salaries are cut by the Executive Branch, it's clear they should be curtailed!

The Golden Ratio informs a lot of my art and photographic composition. The Golden Ratio also informs the design of the golden revolver on all the swimsuits and lingerie, as well as the 45surf logo! Not so long ago, I came up with the Golden Ratio Principle which describes why The Golden Ratio is so beautiful.
The Golden Number Ratio Principle: Dr. E’s Golden Ratio Principle: The golden ratio exalts beauty because the number is a characteristic of the mathematically and physically most efficient manners of growth and distribution, on both evolutionary and purely physical levels. The golden ratio ensures that the proportions and structure of that which came before provide the proportions and structure of that which comes after. Robust, ordered growth is naturally associated with health and beauty, and thus we evolved to perceive the golden ratio harmonies as inherently beautiful, as we saw and felt their presence in all vital growth and life—in the salient features and proportions of humans and nature alike, from the distribution of our facial features and bones to the arrangements of petals, leaves, and sunflowers seeds. Started processing this one on B&W because that red bag grabs your eye attention. But then, I pushed myself and try to create the actual, real life colors and light you find in subways/metros. Tried to remember the moment I took this and bring those tones and light in my mind back here.
Maybe this could be one of my goals for this year, recreate 100% the colors on some of my street shots. Let me know what you think. Btw, I did the post-processing in my iMac, the colors/light could be different on PC's

Almost ten years ago, I learned about the song Waters of March and promised myself to memorize the lyrics so I can sing the song like how the pros do. I would play Basia over and over again and wished that I could sing just like her. It's been ten years now and I just smile at myself. I don't know why, she swallowed a fly... Maybe because she'll eat practically anything!
Out with the two mad Springers earlier, wanted to do some experiments with balancing ambient light and flash, shooting toward the sun. This was shot using a Yongnuo 568EXII mounted on camera in ETTL, high speed synch mode to add fill light.
The fly was buzzing around and just after this shot she snapped at it - probably didn't get it though, she's not as fast as my elder Springer!

Mamaw’s Clock
I don’t really know the full history of this clock. (If I remember correctly it is a Waterbury clock we think is from around the 1920’s or teens. The label on the back is pretty degraded. I have a photo of the back of the clock saved somewhere and I need to find it and put somewhere easy to access.)
This was my mother’s mother’s clock. When I was little it hung on the wall of her house in Hiawassee Georgia. She kept it wound and it would always chime the hour and give one ding for the half-hour. It has a Very distinctive, Very loud chime. Not even really a chime... this thing goes DONG CLANG DONG and it’s spectacular.
I do have one great true story about this clock, it isn’t my story and I don’t remember the finer details, but I’ve been meaning to write this down anyway.
Back in the day in very rural USA (and other places?) they had a telephone “party line” where all the telephones in the area shared one line, so you could pick up the phone and talk to multiple people in the area all at once. Also, if someone was already on a call to someone else you could pick up your phone receiver and listen to them. So, when your neighbors had some really juicy drama, affairs, or drunken in-fighting over the telephone... you could just pick up the party line, sit very quietly, and secretly listen to all the good gossip. Until your clock chimes on the hour and the rowdy neighbor fighting with his girlfriend hears it and says something along the lines of: “I know who’s clock that is. I’m not going to say anything, but she better hang up.” My sweet Mamaw got herself busted listening in on the party line because of this clock.
At some point when I was a kid we brought the clock home with us from Georgia to Alaska and it hung in my house growing up. I was always enamored of this clock and loved to keep it wound and have it chime the hour, but it sortof drove the rest of the family crazy so we never kept it going long. After I moved out and got my own place my mom really surprised me and let me take the clock. (Our relationship isn’t that great, drama for a different story, and when I was still on speaking terms with her I lived in fear that she would demand this clock back if I ever acted too happy about having it.)
My husband and I kept this clock wound for quite a few years! She keeps time wonderfully. Her beautiful loud CLANG DONG CLANG discouraged some unwanted overnight houseguests from making repeat visits! My husbands friend tried to couch surf at our house... sure you can sleep on the couch... in the room with the clock!!
Currently we don’t keep her wound, I need to get a new clock key for her, the one we have is splitting and will break if we try to keep using it.
I always though the figurehead on the clock was a representation of Athena, but now I’m not sure?! I think winged helmets are usually Mercury/Hermes, but I don’t know. Any ideas who she could really be? Maybe just decorative?
(The bubble-level is off. How annoying. One more thing from the 2018 earthquake I haven’t fixed yet. Not a priority because she isn’t running.)
OK, I don't know exactly how he feels, since I'm not 150 years old and I don't weigh 615 pounds, but sometimes, I feel close to that, so I can imagine how he feels.
Here's Speedy, again, as he was leaving the soaking pool. It was a struggle, but he made it. Don't you just love the patterns on his legs!

The Golden Ratio informs a lot of my art and photographic composition. The Golden Ratio also informs the design of the golden revolver on all the swimsuits and lingerie, as well as the 45surf logo! Not so long ago, I came up with the Golden Ratio Principle which describes why The Golden Ratio is so beautiful.
The Golden Number Ratio Principle: Dr. E’s Golden Ratio Principle: The golden ratio exalts beauty because the number is a characteristic of the mathematically and physically most efficient manners of growth and distribution, on both evolutionary and purely physical levels. The golden ratio ensures that the proportions and structure of that which came before provide the proportions and structure of that which comes after. Robust, ordered growth is naturally associated with health and beauty, and thus we evolved to perceive the golden ratio harmonies as inherently beautiful, as we saw and felt their presence in all vital growth and life—in the salient features and proportions of humans and nature alike, from the distribution of our facial features and bones to the arrangements of petals, leaves, and sunflowers seeds. As ratios between Fibonacci Numbers offer the closest whole-number approximations to the golden ratio, and as seeds, cells, leaves, bones, and other physical entities appear in whole numbers, the Fibonacci Numbers oft appear in nature’s elements as “growth’s numbers.” From the dawn of time, humanity sought to salute their gods in art and temples exalting the same proportion by which all their vital sustenance and they themselves had been created—the golden ratio.

You know how you have an idea for a photo (let's say an Iron Photographer photo, for example) and you get everything together and just as you're about ready to shoot somebody calls on the phone? And then you get it all together again, only this time a package arrives, and you have to quick put on your pants to answer the door? And you get all set up yet again, and the cat chases a green balloon into the frame? And even though you shoo the cat away, it keeps returning, hoping you'll play balloon with her? So you shoot the damned photo anyway, on account of you recognize when you're under the influence of forces beyond your control?
Yeah, that's how my IP attempt worked out.
I don't know how many of you good people use PhotoBucket, but I occasionally have the damnedest issue with their site; if for some reason I lose my desktop copy of a photo and I attempt to retrieve a copy from my PhotoBucket album, it saves it in a strange format that drastically reduces the size of the photo. This is an improvement (which should be attributed either to my new and improved computer or to the new PhotoBucket software), as it used to stretch the photo so that it looked like a funhouse mirror reflection of what I had tried to produce.
Point being, the photo seen here is one of the photos that PhotoBucket inexplicably shrinks when I attempt to save it to my desktop, and so I decided to upload the shrunken version to Flickr, and huzzah! It has returned my photo to its original size.
I had not intended to keep this in my photostream since it is over a year old and I do not have a Pro account, and as such any photo I upload now knocks an older photo out of my allowed 200 photos that display.
But this has always been one of my favorite photos (although I admit I am not certain why), and as such I think I will leave it here to celebrate.
Ironically, I suspect it's already in my photostream somewhere... I simply can't access it because it's not one of the 200 most recent photos in my stream!
Someday I hope to be able to afford to prioritize a Pro account.
