This is a genuine 50's set. It is in very good condition, as it was never really used for it's intended purpose. They have stuff in them, but not what it reads on the front. One of them is full of spoons. In those days, it was required that every kitchen have a set. My grandfather used to store money in them.
I had no intention of shooting this, as I was in a bad mood. There was too much stuff to move.
Here's the story...
April 26 was the day set aside for the dollar store photo shoot. Once that was done, I made a cup of tea hoping to turn on the computer, unload the camera and listen to some music.
It didn't happen.
I ended up knocking over my tea cup, with the milk carton spilling tea alll over this counter. All that stuff I didn't feel like moving now had to be washed and dried before returning to the counter. I guess it needed cleaning anyway, The farther you got to the wall, the more crumbs and dust began to pile up. There was also various papers that were all soaked. Stuff like a 2008 calendar. A report on Hammonton's water quality that was mailed to us. Information on how to recycle in Atlantic County. Even a Super Fresh flyer from '09.
I shot this picture before returning the glass tray and other plastic bins that call this counter their home.
Afterwards, I enjoyed my tea...

I was standing here, looking at the kitchen island and thought this was kind of cute. The painter's tape is covering the water dispenser on the refrigerator because it's broken, again. It will randomly just start pouring water; we've been quite lucky that it never happened while not home. I slapped a strip of painter's tape on it and called it fixed. :-)
I have had a 'thing' for bell peppers for months, now. I planted some next to the white roses in the front garden and have been harvesting them daily! YUM!!! I give the neighbors the excess peppers.
At this time of year the sun will sneak in and spotlight small segments of my quarters. I can't resist getting out my camera at thos times.
"a hobo kitchen" is how Cleveland described his kitchen. From "being on skid row" to having a house. And this is his kitchen. See the "flower man" set for more of Cleveland the Flower Man!
txmockbird says this makes him itch and I am inclined to agree.
I have been doing Project 365 for so long, that sometimes you just need to get any picture that will work. But when your leg and back hurts, and its raining all day, the options are thin. Hey cats - do something cute...or not. Taken on Thursday May 4, 2017 with my wonderful cats Cosmo and Wanda.

The light was great from all the reflected snow. I still love my retro countertop and thrifted tiles after almost 2 years. All the cabinets needed was a fresh coat of paint as I had painted them a few years ago to distract the eye from the old really ugly counter. Note how the window looks out to another window in the "laundry room"- a closed in old porch.
This has to be one of the most striking features of Scandinavian Airlines' business class. This buffet is available between meals and includes a real espresso machine, chocolate, fruit, and various sandwiches. I hope the future United KitchenCounter in First Class will be at least somewhat similar.
Came downstairs to see this on the countertop. Don't know how it got there or why, but it's picturesque nevertheless.
We spent most of the day today looking in shelters for a cat to adopt. We may have found 1 or 2 that were especially sweet. I'm thankful that there are really amazing places to house strays -- one place has housed several cats over the past 2 years! And I'm grateful that, in the meantime, we can still have cuteness on our countertops. (Until we get a cat, and then all counters need to be cat-proofed.)

Bastet, the most adorable & also most expensive street-find, to date... And let me just say, for an alley cat, she sure has impeccable taste~look @ her on the sleek stool! Ergo, watch out for those calicos!
Proof positive -->
So, here she is sitting in her designer stool that she won't let ANYONE get near & stares them down until they move, when they try...
She only drinks water from a faucet...any faucet will do, but now she's started a new thing where she's actually climbing in the sink & giving herself a bath. Killing two birds with one stone, I suppose?
And, out of all the blankets in the space, she's chosen the most expensive one I've ever purchased - a cashmere throw (so I got it @ a sample sale & it was $700 off, still) as her favourite. Loving it in only the way a feline can, she's shredded it to bits. It now looks more like swiss cheese than a smart throw!
...BUT... just look @ those eyes! I can't stay mad for long, or at all, really. People who don't even like cats (and that did include me) even fall in love with her. Alas, I'm now one of "those". As in, one of "those" single-women-with-a-cat cliches! LOL.

F.Y.I.:
The goddess Bastet was usually represented as a woman with the head of a domesticated cat. However, up until 1000 BC she was portrayed as a lioness. Bastet was the daughter of Re, the sun god. It may have been through him that she acquired her feline characteristics. When Re destroyed his enemy Apep, he was usually depicted as a cat. As portrayed as a cat, she was connected with the moon (her son Khonsu was the god of the moon). When shown as a lioness, she is associated with sunlight.
Bastet was the goddess of fire, cats, of the home and pregnant women.
