The Chioggia beet (pronounced kee-OH-gee-uh), also known as the candy cane or candy stripe beet, hails from Chioggia, a town in Northern Italy, and became popular in the 19th century. This heirloom beet is most notable for its striking deep pink and white spirals, and the beet adds a beautiful pop of color to salads and soups. [...]. The Chioggia beet has an especially sweet and mild earthy flavor—and it doesn’t ‘bleed’ as much as regular beets [...].

Grown last year in our son's vegetable garden. Never seen these before!l!

Jimmy (L) and Guru share a moment of eye contact, while Batman looks on.

The yellow foliage is one of two giant ginkgo trees in the yard across the street from us. They are so pretty in the Fall.

I don't know what this communication is about. Is Jimmy trying to remember something, and Muse is waiting to hear what he has to say? haha...

its been so grey outside for days............here is some light from a few weeks ago!

Week #13 ~ Eggcellent

I made this delightful spiced lemon soda from scratch on the kitchen counter. First I cooked pumpkin pie spices in a saucepan and cooled them.

Then I poured two tablespoons of the spices over two squeezed lemons in a soda glass.

Then I added a can of Seltzer, pouring slowly so it did not bubble up over the rim of the glass.

The large bubble was totally unexpected - pure serendipity!

The glass and the largest bubble are 2.75 inches in diameter.

Don't worry Harold, the eggs are being used to make food!

A dear couple from our church knocked on our front door yesterday and gifted us with this delicious homemade bread. So fresh that it was still a bit warm, we immediately cut through its thick crust and ended up in bread heaven for the next 15 minutes!

Here on the cutting board on our kitchen counter.

Thank God for good friends and neighbors...

With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️

We went to visit friends in nearby Saratoga, a town in the Silicon Valley, California. They have a kitchen with a shiny marble kitchen top, which invited me to take a reflection shot.

I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Thank you for visiting - ♡ with gratitude! Fave if you like it, add comments below, like the Facebook page, order beautiful HDR prints at qualityHDR.com.

Poor Bernie ..... he wanted to help with breakfast.. but the egg slipped out of his little paw before it got to the pan.

He was probably in a hurry because he didn't want to stay away from his windowsill for too long.

My favorite perfume bottle (not necessarily fragrance) makes yet another appearance. This isn't the most glamorous set-up; I just placed it on top of my kitchen counter.

A cobalt blue glass vase of cut flowers and herbs from my winter garden in Tucson, Arizona.

I love using cobalt blue glasses as vases for cut flowers and foliage.

The white snapdragon flowers and the purple basil flowers are from my kitchen garden. I don't see any blue rosemary flowers. That was a definite omission. Shame on me!

Now the hard part:

The curry plant is in my garden. It smells like the spice curry or its ingredient cumin. It was in the herb section of Harlow Gardens in Tucson, Arizona. However, it is not the same as the Curry Tree that is originally from subtropical India. This plant is not an herb in my sense of the word, so I will be making inquiries at Harlow.

It's prescription day, gotta fill the boxes with medications!

It is always good to have some help when doing this job every few days!

Not from champagne or anything like that, but from finally getting around to working on my book again. I spent hours putting it together yesterday, and I still have my work cut out for me.

I'll be visiting very soon. Happy weekend!

This composition reminded me of a variety of fox..;-).

These are two pie pumpkins I got at Trader Joe's for Thanksgiving decorations. They are meant to be used for cooking and baking. Both have been cut and the seeds and strings removed. Now, what shall we make?

I'm thinking about stuffing them with diced apples, raisins, and nuts.

Some brown sugar and/or maple syrup and honey would be good.

Then baking them slowly on a baking pan.

I must remember to cover the two lengthwise cut halves with aluminum foil to prevent the tops from getting scorched.

The pumpkin cut crosswise has its own baking cap.

If you're vegan, you may not want to add honey...;):

Sometimes when a cat leaves most of their food in the bowl, we save it 'til the next feeding. The top of the toaster oven seems to be the best place so far, for keeping it tucked away until we use it.

This cake is so good. It's got 3 layers and is an uncooked dessert.

...but then don't we all do that everyday???

Happy Monday!!!

My sweet little angel!

She is balancing bokeh on her nose... she is so well-trained! :-)

She probably got that bokeh from the backyard.

Wanda (the cat) making sure I stick to my diet today....I could not get to the cookies...not a one!

Hanna (right) and Juno love hanging out in the kitchen with me. They are good company, so far they have never stolen any food (unless it is on the floor;) which I think is quite amazing considering their noses are at counter height.
