Today we rallied outside of Philadelphia’s ICE office to let them know we will not stand for their anti-black criminalization and destruction of our communities. Let’s bring Christian home!!! Help us make sure our voices our heard by tweeting:

@sec_mayorkas

Our comrade @vamos_juntos_ has been supporting Christian and his family over the last three years to stop his unjust deportation. After dropping his children off at school last week, Christian was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents as he returned home. He was immediately taken to Moshannon Valley Detention Center and has since been transferred to other detention centers to be deported, even though he has been a resident for 20 years. If deported, Christian would leave his wife and young children, all of whom are US citizens. We need to halt Christian’s deportation immediately so that we can advocate for his release and get him home to his family.

Join Juntos and VietLead for a phone zap next Tuesday, May 2nd to demand that ICE officials release Christian and stop his deportation immediately! During the hour-long zoom call, we will walk you through the toolkit and support you in making calls to different ICE officials. Can't make the phone zap? Take 5 minutes out of your day to contact ICE officials using the #KeepChristianHome toolkit!

I love how Daily Mail "ARGH WE'RE DOOMED" readers need to be prompted to keep scrolling (3 times on this article)

Although to their credit they are embracing social submission sites with their submit to delicious et al. links.

We didn't get as much snow as the rest of Britain but it's sure cold in the Midlands. A view of St Giles Church, Northampton.

Keep calm and carry on and don't forget your 'dust-jacket' :)

BOOK PUBLISHER INVESTS IN LITERACY

(Mikazuki News) August 14, 2012 - Book publisher based in Los Angeles has created an international weekly reading day that promotes reading and literacy. The day is called "Read Aloud Thursdays!" and is dedicated to promoting literacy and education. The one day per week event is on-going and will seek to encourage book publishers and book industry executives to donate reading materials to schools, libraries, and educational and/or learning centers. Read Aloud Thursdays was first started as an internal campaign within Mikazuki Publishing House but quickly grew to an event that is being organized to be adopted in multiple countries. The CEO of Mikazuki Publishing House Kambiz Mostofizadeh said "We are deeply invested in the promotion of educational and entertaining reading materials and we encourage individuals to participate in reading." The program is set to start in August 2012. For more information visit: www.MikazukiPublishingHouse.com/

The WWII Memorial has about a dozen of these signs. They have an elegant design, but they're still stupid. "Please Respect the Memorial; Keep Out of Pool Area." I guess they had to call it a pool "area" because otherwise it sounds like a swimming pool. But this is a design issue that should have been addressed before the memorial was built. I personally like the idea of people wading in pools - even memorials - but if you're against it then build that into your design. Don't build a pool that invites people to dip in and then barricade it with annoying signs!

This is just like Caution: Do Not Be an Idiot.

The storm is coming but i don't mind.

People are dying, i close my blinds.

All that i know is i'm breathing now.

I want to change the world...instead i sleep.

I want to believe in more than you and me.

But all that i know is i'm breathing.

All i can do is keep breathing.

All we can do is keep breathing now.

All that i know is i'm breathing.

All i can do is keep breathing.

All we can do is keep breathing now.

All we can do is keep breathing

All we can do is keep breathing

All we can do is keep breathing

All we can do is keep breathing.

All we can do is keep breathing now.

Photos from the 2013 BoardGameGeek Convention at the Dallas-Fort Worth Hyatt Regency. I had a wonderful time!! Kudos to BoardGameGeek admin and volunteers for helping to keep this event running so smoothly.

Feel free to use or repost for helping to promote the convention or in personal blog posts, etc., plus please include a photo credit if at all possible...Either "Debbie Ridpath Ohi" or a link to my @BGGgirl Twitter feed or the original photo in this Flickr set (or the set itself) or my Facebook page, etc.

Please don't ask me to send you any particular photo; I lack the time to search for and send individual photos, sorry.

we thought having a house on the corner was awesome. then we had to shovel.

our landlord recommended building up this snow hill along the boulevard strip that's about a foot wide, to protect us from the snowplows. it's about 2' tall now and it's hard to shovel snow onto it, but it does mostly keep them from plowing right onto the sidewalk.

eventually this'll be tall enough that we can put in a moat, too.

I really liked the sign in front of the missile silo on the previous photo. I don't know exactly what drew me to making this particular shot with the focusing i did, but I'm happy with the results. I hope the noir processing doesn't take away from it. I think it adds, but that's me.
