This photo of the hills that overlook the hamlet of Amulree, in Perthshire, in Scotland, was taken on December 27, 2012 from the A822, which runs west and then south from the A9 opposite Dunkeld, on the banks of the River Tay, along a route first created by drovers and then used as a military road. In the foreground is the River Braan, which runs east from Amulree to join the River Tay west of Dunkeld. The river is formed at Amulree, at the meeting of two other waterways -- the River Quaich and the Cochill Burn.

Watch: Salman Khan joins environmentalists; appeals to fans to Rally for rivers
Over the years, Salman Khan has not just achieved the pinnacle of stardom but with a massive fan following in India and overseas, he has also become a trend setter. Though Salman who was seen earlier this year in the film Tubelight has his hands full with multiple projects, the actor who has been known to be a person with a heart of gold decided to lend his support to a rather noble initiative to save Indian rivers.
Taking to the social networking platforms of Instagram and Twitter, Salman Khan shared a video wherein he talks about the campaign saying, “Namastey. I am Salman Khan. The rivers of our country have taken good care of us since thousands of years, but it is sad that today these rivers are drying up quickly. These rivers are our and our country’s lifeline. No river, No us. So to save the rivers and for saving us, I am campaigning for Rally for rivers. To save our rivers, I’m giving a missed call on 8000980009. I request you to do so too.” Posting the video on Instagram, Salman captioned it saying, “Make a difference by being an active participant of the #RallyforRivers movement. Give a missed call aaj..abhi!”
With this Salman Khan has now joined other Bollywood celebrities like Rishi Kapoor and Anupam Kher who had earlier taken to social networking sites displaying their support as well. As for the Rally for Rivers initiative, the said campaign aims at saving rivers like Ganga, Krishna, Narmada and Kaveri, which are at the risk of depleting fast. The initiative which was started by spiritual leader and yogi Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, who has established Isha Foundation will also see the yogi drive from Kanyakumari to the Himalayas to create awareness as well.
Back on the film front, Salman Khan will soon be seen sharing screen space with Katrina Kaif in the Ali Abbas Zafar directorial Tiger Zinda Hai followed by the Remo D’Souza directed dance film and Dabangg 3.

USARJ hosted “Take Back the Night” Glow-Stick Run April 27. More than one hundred Soldiers, Civilians, Family Members, Local National Employees and pets from the Camp Zama community participated in 3K Fun Run/Walk from Yano field to Zama American High School and back. Thousands of people have joined the TUC ‘Birmingham for the alternative’ march on the Lib Dem conference in Birmingham today.
Marchers came from all around the Midlands and beyond. Trade Union banners showed the breadth of union participation. Marchers were angry at the role the Lib Dems have played in propping up the Tories in office. From Fees to Academies to cuts, no matter what the issue, the Lib Dems are helping the Tories drive through their policies of privatisation and cuts.
In 2 weeks time thousands more will gather to march on the Tory conference. On 30th November up to 3 million public sector workers will strike against the ConDem attacks on pensions.
Speakers from the platform reflected the breadth of anger and resistance that exists in society. Mary Bousted from the ATL said that unequal distribution of wealth means kids come to school anxious because parents fear losing job. Mark Serwotka from the PCS said that November 30 will be biggest strike for generations – we have to fight to win the ballots. He condemned Ed Miliband for condemning strikes and said he should side with workers fighting back. He ended his speech with – Fight every cut! Defend every job. Free education. Tax the rich!
Christine Blower from the NUT said she was proud her members were on strike on June 30 and they will be out on November30. “We will defend our pensions. Fight on every campaign”. Billy Hayes from the CWU announced to cheers that Posties won’t cross picket Lines on November 30th
Right to Work is proud of the role we have played in this demonstration. We initially called the demonstration before the TUC decided to run one themselves. We were pleased with their decision to do this. Right to Work placards ran through the demonstration, reflecting the role Right to Work has played in the last few weeks in leafletting and mobilising for the demo.
250 people packed the Right to Work rally after the demonstration.

We started a new book discussion group in December 2007, focusing on literary fiction. At our first meeting we discussed Kiran Desai's award-winning novel, The Inheritance of Loss.
