Bolton’s Neighbourhood Team joined partners on Monday to seize nearly one-hundred canisters of nitrous oxide in addition to cannabis, illegal tobacco, and illicit vapes in a day of action.
The group, which included local officers, trading standards, immigration officials, the fire service, and specialist sniffer dogs carried out the searches at six premises on Derby Road, Bolton, including restaurants, shops, and takeaways.
The activity was carried out to ensure that work was being conducted legally and within the confines of their licenses. This included dealing with reports of illegal activity that have come in from the local community, such as anti-social behaviour, suspected drug-related criminality in the area, and more.
Immigration officials checked the legality of workers, the dogs checked for illegal tobacco and cash hordes, and the fire service checked to ensure buildings were adhering to the appropriate health and safety rules.
The day resulted in numerous positive results, including the recovery of 97 canisters of nitrous oxide gas from two vehicles which were identified by the sniffer dog team.
Nitrous Oxide became a Class C drug in 2023, which allows police further powers to seize and arrest those who possess and sell it for illegal purposes. The two cars were seized by officers.
In addition, a quantity of cannabis in snap bags was located, as well as illicit vapes which do not conform to UK standards. All were seized by police and trading standards.
The activity in the area will continue as officers bid to clamp down on suspected criminality, which will include further visits, proactive patrols, stops, and more.
Anyone in the Bolton area and who has information they would like to pass to police are asked to contact their local neighbourhood policing team. You can do this by speaking to an officer in the street, attending a PACT meeting, or by reporting the information online at gmp.police.uk.

Sergeant Oliver Cooper, from GMP’s Bolton district, said: “When people let us know about suspected illegal activity in their area, we investigate it to the best of our ability and utilise all the resources we have available.
“Illegal business practices and illegal behaviour will be dealt with accordingly and with the safety and security of local people at the forefront of any decisions. Monday’s actions show just how much we are dedicated to reducing crime in the Bolton area.
