Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur joined her Congressional colleagues in introducing legislation to protect retirees invested in multiemployer pension funds. Democratic Congressional leadership released the Rehabilitation for Multiemployer Pensions Act, also known as the “Butch Lewis Act” in honor of an Ohio Teamster. The bill would establish stability in troubled plans through the issuance of low-interest, 30-year loans by a newly created Pension Rehabilitation Administration. In Ohio, there are nearly 50,000 retirees in the Central States Pension Fund and thousands more in the nearly 100 multiemployer pension plans whose retirement income is in jeopardy absent congressional action.

On November 2, 2013, over 500 people joined us for an unforgettable evening in celebration of the Day of the Dead. Music from DJ Moi, the vibrant sounds of Colombian singer Marcela Pinilla, and mariachi music from the roving troupe Mariachi Guadalajara filled the air, as guests made paper Cempasuchitl–the traditional flower of the deceased–to wear or place on the museum's altar in honor of the dead.
As evident here, Catrinas, or opulently dressed skeleton figures based on José Luis Posada's icon of death, were available for posed photographs.

Joined the team at BP America’s Westlake campus for a roundtable discussion about their operations, campus restoration, Houston Ship Channel dredging, and their commitment to our country's economy and energy security.
Joined by representatives of the Department of Education and Delaware Technical Community College, the Governor spoke to students about resources available to them to make the best decisions and get into the best education/training programs for their individual career paths. The Governor and/or Department of Education representatives will be reaching every senior class in the state to urge them to continue their education beyond high school.
The Virginia National Guard joined World War II veterans and the community of Bedford, Va., at the commemoration ceremony for the 66th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion at the National D-Day Memorial June 6 in Bedford. The Virginia Guard’s 29th Army Band provided music with the commander of the 116th Infantry Regimental Band from World War II joining the band as a guest conductor, and Soldiers from the 116th Infantry Regiment provided escorts for the wreath laying. Maj. Gen. Robert B. Newman, Jr., the Adjutant General of Virginia, Brig. Gen. Frank Batts, the commander of the 29th Infantry Division, and Lt. Col. Bill Zana, former commander of the Winchester-based 3rd Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment, read short historical vignettes during the ceremony. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen shared his reflections of D-Day, and then greeted veterans and Virginia Guard Soldiers supporting the event. (Photo by Sgt. Andrew H. We teamed up with Joining Hearts, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing housing support to people living with HIV and AIDS in Atlanta, to host the charity's annual Valentine's Day themed, Love on the Rocks event at our Atlanta showroom on Sunday, February 8. The sold-out event was a huge success, raising nearly $25,000 from ticket sales and the silent auction! Thanks so much to the amazing community in Atlanta and all our friends that came out to support!

On Saturday, November 15, Monterey joined the nationwide protest of the passing of Proposition 8 in California. The event began at 10:30 AM at Colton Hall, the birthplace of the California Constitution and concluded in a march through downtown Monterey to Window on the Bay.
In 1849, California’s first constitutional convention was held at Colton Hall in Monterey, California. This historic landmark is now the oldest continually used municipal building in California.
