We were very excited to host our very first Portland, Maine Mixer & Startup Showcase! Over 150 attendees packed the venue and stood witness as 10 startups duked it out for first place. The event was even graced by the Mayor of Portland who said a few words to kick off the event.

I admire Kelly - she knows the importance of taking time to nourish her marriage to her terrific husband and this time she did it by planning a spa day together. In order to make this day work, she called on her friend to take care of her son after school until she returned home. What better token of thanks than a box of Sweet Handmade cookies?
These beautiful blossoms and ladybugs shout spring and are a perfect way to say thank you for being a kind friend.
Taken last February, which seems like a vastly long time ago. Especially as my photo-taking is concerned. A time when I was still creative/insane enough to go wandering out during a bitterly cold February snow-storm at least.
It's weird looking through my archive from the past 3-4 months and finding nothing worth sharing. Just a lot of uninspired snapshots, that while I remember at the time thinking were good, now just feel flat.
Hopefully I can come up with some good stuff this week, maybe take a walk through Frick Park, or wait for Pitt and CMU's Winter Break so that I have a nice empty campus to work with again.
Not sure what the hobbies were eating at this point - as there were not many dragonflies around - but whatever it was - was worth eating
Panel from 1989 "Outland" comic strip with an "alternate version" of the death of Walt Disney. Mickey Mouse tells him "Tinkerbell is having Elmer Fudd's baby" and Walt goes "clunk".
Printed in the Sunday Los Angeles Times so it has to be true.
It is written, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you. But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me. But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people."
Climbing up out of Wanlockhead the direction of travel is unmistakable as all you have to do is head for the summit with the National Air Traffic System "golf ball" virtually perched on the summit of Lowther Hill at 2378' this is the highest point encountered on the entire 212 miles of the SUW and it does seem a bit of a pity not to be able to "top out" on the highest point, still the fence denies the summit bagger a mere yard or two of height so given the need to keep our aeroplanes from falling out of the sky its unreasonable to complain too much.
it looks like she's posing this way but i actually just got a good snap, sally was trying to take photos of horses :')

It looks like a giant mad Meccano construct. Completly out of place amid the magnificent buildings of Paris
1708m wide and 108m high water from the Zambezi R plumets over Victoria Falls into First Gorge. David Livingstone was the first European to view Victoria Falls on 16 Nov 1855. He named it for Queen Victoria. The local name is Mosi-oa-tunya, "The Smoke that Thunders".

Anitella doesn't even know who Cole Porter is, but agrees wholeheartedly in this long hot summer...
We run Macmini as an iTunes server at home, without a screen, and accessing it via iPad using iTeleport. So while I normally process photos at work on an iMac, this photo was loaded onto the Macmini direct from the D700, processed and uploaded with iPhoto, all remotely on the iPad. Home computing at its best..

The guest DJ sets up at The Pillbox Tavern in downtown St. Paul MN. My interest was piqued by the wall decor behind him, specifically the former Minneapolis PCC streetcar. No mistaking the sleek PCC outline, but oh dear, those wheels aren’t kosher.

It's been a good week for these! Lots of clouds and good winds to shred them up prettily.
This was also the result of finding a good unobstructed sky view near my house. I'm looking forward to the next great sunset already.
This is probably the best way to view my photos.
If it were only a gem, I could break it into a hundred pieces
and string them into a chain to put on your neck.
If it were only a flower, round and small and sweet, I could pluck it
from its stem and set it in your hair.
But it is a heart, my beloved. Where are its shores and its bottom?
