This year’s Air Force Ball was held at Pope Field, Sept. 20. The evening included many fun activities for the participants, making the ball a memorable event.

Over 600 trees were handed out to troops on Dec. 5 during the Trees for Troops event at Smith Lake. Soldiers who were E-6 and below could get a free tree during the giveaway. Cars started lining up three hours before the giveaway started to assure their spot in line.

Construction workers remove natural grass from Pope Field’s Hercules track and field, Jan. 29. The workers are currently preparing to replace the grass with astroturf, similar to athletic fields at Towle and Hedrick stadiums. Hercules will be the third athletic field at Fort Bragg to receive astroturf.

"Spirit of the American Doughboy" is a statue by E.M. Viquesney to honor the Veterans and Casualties of World War I. This statue was produced and placed in many locations. The interesting features of the statue in Meridian, MS is the tall native sandstone base and the eternal flame behind it. It is located in a small triangular park where 23rd Ave., 6th St., and 7th St. all meet. Learn more about these statues here:

The Father Daughter ball held at the Fort Bragg Club June 20 was heavily attended. Fathers in their best suits or dress uniforms escorted their Daughters elegantly dressed in the latest fashions. They danced and mingled while snacking in between on the buffet. Abigail Schaad, 4, and her Father Major Michael Schaad from MISO pose before entering the ball.

Clay Collins, a native of Hollywod, Fla., reads a science and technology magazine, Oct. 28, at Fort Bragg, N.C. He was recognized as the Youth of the Year after participating in the Youth Leadership Form program.

Sgt. 1st Class SFC Jaekuen Lee performs a choke hold in the combatives event during the USA John F. The weeklong competition consisted of the Army Physical Fitness Test, written examination, combatives, day/night land navigation and an oral board.

The streets of Fort Bragg were jam packed with runners lined up on Reilly Road for the first ever Neon 5K Night run. Participants ran with glow stick items they recieved from MWR staff. Runners were treated to several vendors displaying their services or porducts under tents set up across from Hedricks Stadium. Kids had the opportunity to take photos with their favorite superhero or disney princess as Batman, Wolverine, Captain America, Queen Elsa and Snow White all showed up for the festivities before the run.

Maj. Alfred M. Muna, installations officer, G4, 1st Sustainment Command (Theater), presents John Griffin Middle School’s Patriotic Pirates Club with a Certificate of Appreciation signed by the 1st TSC Special Troops Battalion Command Team March 18, at JGMS in Fayetteville. Led by Patricia Sineath, a school counselor, the club provides a support group for students from military Families who move frequently and those who have deployed parents. The club also provides support for deployed servicemembers. In December 2014, the Patriotic Pirates collected and donated two large care packages for deployed 1st TSC Soldiers and single Soldiers living in the barracks.

Fort Bragg youth participate in Vacation Bible School, June 22 to 26, at Irwin Intermediate School. This year’s theme was Jungle Safari: Where kids explore the nature of God.

First responders, including Fort Bragg Fire and Emergency Services personnel participate in an annual crash drill exercise at Fort Bragg, Monday. Facilitated by Airfield Safety, the exercise is conducted to gauge emergency response to an aircraft accident on the installation.

Over the weekend elements from 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, 505th PIR, and 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment fired more than 30 Tube-launched, optically-tracked, wire guided missiles from Observation Point 9.

Soldiers participated in a monthly climbing event with the Better Opportunity for Single Soldiers at the Triangle Rock Club, Friday.
