Dr. Emily Marsh, Talks about the naming of Fort Braggs newest school, The Mildred B. Poole Elementary School. Mildred Poole will be the first Civilian to have a Fort Bragg school named for her. She integrated the Fort Bragg Schools in 1951, well ahead of the Public schools.

Fort Bragg and Fayetteville Families enjoy the unlimited carnival rides and live entertainment at the Fort Bragg Fair on May 2.

The fair is an annual event that takes place every spring at the Fort Bragg Fairgrounds located on Bragg Boulevard. Gates open at 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and at 1 p.m. on Saturday & Sunday.

The Fort Bragg Fair ends Sunday with a Mother’s Day appreciation day. Mothers are admitted for free when accompanied by a paying child 36 inches or taller to age 17.

Holbrook Elementary School students sing during the school’s closing ceremony, Tuesday, at Fort Bragg. The school will shut its doors after operating since 1959 on the

installation. Next school year, students will be transitioned into Hampton Primary and Irwin Intermediate schools. Holbrook Elementary is a community school that has garnered

support from parents, staff members, and from Fort Bragg Soldiers. It was named for Gen. Lucius Holbrook, a commander of Camp Bragg in the early 1900s.

Soldiers assigned to Fort Bragg carry one of two memorial wreaths to be placed in front of the main fl ag pole during the Sept. 11 commemoration

ceremony Thursday at Fort Bragg. Members of the Fayetteville and Spring Lake police departments and emergency medical technicians

placed the other wreath. The ceremony marked the 13th year since Sept. 11, 2011, when terrorists used three passenger planes to attack both

towers of the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon near Washington, D.C. The fourth plane crashed in an open fi eld near Shanksville,

Pennsylvania, after passengers attempted to subdue their attackers.

The streets of Fort Bragg were jam packed with runners lined up on Reilly Road for the first ever Neon 5K Night run. Participants ran with glow stick items they recieved from MWR staff. Runners were treated to several vendors displaying their services or porducts under tents set up across from Hedricks Stadium. Kids had the opportunity to take photos with their favorite superhero or disney princess as Batman, Wolverine, Captain America, Queen Elsa and Snow White all showed up for the festivities before the run.

Megan Hines, a Family member, executes an arabesque maneuver which requires balance, strength and agility. Hines is seriously dedicated to honing her skills. She and the rest of the skaters, come to the rink four to five times a week for two or three hours a session.

Construction workers remove natural grass from Pope Field’s Hercules track and field, Jan. 29. The workers are currently preparing to replace the grass with astroturf, similar to athletic fields at Towle and Hedrick stadiums. Hercules will be the third athletic field at Fort Bragg to receive astroturf.

"Spirit of the American Doughboy" is a statue by E.M. Viquesney to honor the Veterans and Casualties of World War I. This statue was produced and placed in many locations. The interesting features of the statue in Meridian, MS is the tall native sandstone base and the eternal flame behind it. It is located in a small triangular park where 23rd Ave., 6th St., and 7th St. all meet. Learn more about these statues here:
