But I always like to call it a Van Gogh Iris as the artist somehow turned this flower into a Dutch icon. Taken in Abcoude in Jan & Ineke's garden 2010.

This was my absolute favorite, although there was tons I really liked. It was white and brown, with just a touch of gold and purple. Of course it is not for sale yet and I say yet because I hope that does eventually go on sale.

and a side of Banana Slug.

In spite of laying off flower photos I sometimes can't stop myself from pressing the shutter button.

Iris unguicularis 'Winter Iris'

(Click image to enlarge) Best known old fashioned species growing to around 30 cm tall (12"). Dappled light seems suit them best but they grow well in the sun if you keep the water up to them and good drainage, specially while they are estbalishing themselves. They have evergreen, strappy foliage and like to be left undisturbed up to 20 years. They flower from June to August with lovely perfume. Flowers are soft lavender blue with a white area around the rich egg-yolk signals. www.carrollscountrygardensnursery.net

a nice sign of spring on my birthday. :)

I ♥ these flowers, but they haven't come up for a few years. There are some tulips planted in the same area; I think they compete every year.

Yellow flag, Geraldine Watson Preserve, Warren, Tyler County, April 2003

Just revisited this pond a few days ago, July 2012, and this has taken over a large part. It is an invasive that is difficult to eradicate as it spreads through rhizomes and seeds.

This is the first one that was brought to the Preserve by Geraldine, before it was known to be a threat to other plants.
