Sometimes, at the end of the day, you've taken over 100 pictures and nothing works. And then, there's a new flower blooming in the garden and that's the shot that works out. Thank goodness for pretty flowers! (Actually, thank goodness for pretty perennials that come up and pretty much take care of themselves!)
Irises always make me think of Georgia O'Keefe... talk about bee porn!
Bursting into full bloom as we go from a Spring that never showed up right into Summer! These are from a private garden in the neighbourhood.
Wild Iris, near St. Mary's, Alaska. I have been particularly fond of iris most of my life. I think it is becasue of my grandmother's garden many years ago. She raised several varieties of giant iris.
We had never seen irises like these before.
The Butchart Gardens began when the Butchart family moved to Vancouver Island to open a limestone quarry and cement plant. Jennie Butchart was an avid gardener, and when the quarry was exhausted, she worked to create her vision of a grand garden.
We took a day tour from Vancouver to Victoria which, of course, included a ferry ride. Our tour guide was wonderful, and the tour itself included stops in downtown Vancouver and the Butchart Gardens.
