Iris are a mid-spring bloomer in the spring, giving color, but fade in a week or two.

"They are Irises (Iris missouriensis Nutt. Kearney & Peebles p 195). I checked my reference and I was suprised that they are considered a native species in parts of AZ. Since these are by the fireplace, I suspect that they were planted by the family that lived here. They weren't blooming when I was here. Glad to know the dates that they bloom."

My mother's garden.

So many beautiful flowers this time of year: Poppies, Iris and soon it will be Peony time. Thanks to a generous neighbour we still have these Iris year after year. He was elderly at the time and we have kept his flowers going all these years.

It's 1 December 2009 and there is an Iris blooming in the garden - this sort of thing is supposed to happen in May - I guess it's another indication that the climate is really changing.
