A single bloom at the Denver botanic gardens.

Famiglia: Iridacee | Caratteristiche:

Habitat: Luoghi caldi e soleggiati. 0-1200 m.; Fioritura: Aprile giugno

Proprietà farmaceutiche: Aromatizzanti, rinfrescanti, espettoranti, antisettiche. (Droga usata: rizoma).

I got rhizomes (roots) of these flowers here

It's a place where they collect, grow and sell all sorts of iris, very beautiful to visit.

Anyway, you can browse their catalogue instead.

Heritage iris 'Alcazar' - though my plant has not been formally identified by an iris expert.

This beauty is fertile both as pod parent and pollen parent with modern tall bearded iris. Some may wonder why I bother to cross back to a variety over 100 years old. It is because I like the elegant fleur-de-lys shape, the veins on the hafts, the fragrance, and best of all the display in the garden and I hope these characteristics will be passed on to its children.

Alcazar has 5 blooms on each stalk open today (November 13), but these are the last as there is only one unopened bud left. Each stalk has 5 branches (2 lowest branches also have 'sub-branches' so have 2 bloom points on each of these branches); total bud count was at least 18 per stalk.
