Iris atropurpurea, the coastal iris, is a species in the genus Iris, it is also in the subgenus of Iris and in the Oncocyclus section. It is a rhizomatous perennial, from Israel. It has glaucous, linear, falcate leaves.

I planted some Iris bulbs at the edge of my patio two years ago. Those

who know the characteristics of Iris realize that they don't bloom in the

first year. So, today they are blooming for the first time.

What a nice surprise. Perhaps this was a new variety that I planted last year and which just didn't manage to bloom then. Anyway, I am intrigued by the blue fuzzy things - those are usually yellow!

A straight out the camera shot with no editing... A first for me as I always have to fiddle!

I love the streaks the iris has on its delicate petals leading from the flash of yellow...

May 4, 2014. This small iris blooms early and repeats in the fall.

Spotted on a walk around the estate

For all those who wonder: we had two wonderful days, visited five different gardens, we were pampered and very well fed... and we are exhausted now! And we had good weather: the drops on this iris fell during the time we had tea somewhere inside! // Voor wie het wil weten: het waren twee prachtige dagen, bezochten vijf verschillende tuinen, we werden vertroeteld en overheerlijk gevoed... en nu zijn we uitgeput! En we hadden mooi weer: de druppels op deze iris vielen tijdens een theepauze ergens binnen.
