El iris es una planta vivaz de jardín que cuenta con muchas especies.
Se trata de una variedad muy agradecida y valorada, ya que se desarrolla bien en casi todas las tierras de jardín con simples cuidados. En las altitudes templadas crece silvestre en multitud de formas y colores, pero también como planta para cultivar.
Son multianuales, con hojas espatiformes, o a manera de herbáceas o también con pecíolo redondo. Las flores del iris suelen ser individuales; se abren hacia abajo en tres pétalos externos, mientras que los tres internos se alzan en corola. Existe gran variedad de colores también. El iris debe estar siempre situado al sol o a semisombra. El suelo debe ser permeable en el caso del iris bulboso y vivaz. No ocurre lo mismo con la variedad de pantano, que necesitará que la tierra esté empapada.

Mottisfont is famous for its walled rose garden, which is just lovely. The roses are indeed many and varied, and very beautiful. I was really taken by the irises, though. I love irises! And what a collection they have there!

This unusual iris is decidedly an old-time variety. It is sturdy, not finicky, and flowers well. The colors always fascinate me...an odd mix of violet, mauve and gold. This SOOC original is not very striking, so I painted it, and spiced up the colors somewhat.
An Iris is an interesting flower with its colors, shapes and textures. I sincerely hope you will enjoy the beauty of this flower captured after a gentle rain.
