An old picture from almost 10 years ago with some new post processing (or to be more precise: 11 pictures and 4 dark frames stacked in Sequitur and post processed in Photoshop). The picture was taken a few hundred meters from my house in the middle of a small town in Germany. That's one of the nice side effects to live on the countryside: You can see the milky way without travelling...
I don't usually photograph fences but this I could not resist, the stunning surroundings at Snowdonia national park North Wales.
This was taken from The Nantlle Ridge looking over towards Trum Y Dysgyl.
Taken two weeks ago, just before we finally got some spring-worthy weather. Now the view is much greener...

Freie Reichsstadt Esslingen - Gemeint sind freie Bürger in der Reichsstadt.
Wie ganz Deutschland war auch die Region um Stuttgart noch vor wenigen hundert Jahren ein politischer Flickenteppich:
Nur wenige Kilometer flussaufwärts im Neckartal begann das "Ausland". Die erste Grenze musste man schon kurz vor Esslingen passieren - heute zwölf Bahnminuten vom Hauptbahnhof entfernt.
Esslingen war bis 1802 freie Reichsstadt - und unterstand keinem Herzog oder König, sondern direkt dem Kaiser des Heiligen Römischen Reiches Deutscher Nation.
Dieses Privileg machte die Stadt reich, was man an den herrschaftlich verzierten Fachwerk- und Bürgerhäusern sehen kann.
Ein besonderer Schatz ist das Alte Rathaus
mit dem Glockenspiel,
das 200 Lieder spielen kann.
In der verwinkelten Innenstadt wurden sogar einige Kanäle überbaut.
Esslingen gehört damit zu den wenigen Städten weltweit mit einer bebauten Brücke.
Einmalig ist auch die Stadtmauer, die sich den Hang emporschiebt und einen Weinberg mit einschließt. Offensichtlich wollte man im Mittelalter auf Nummer sicher gehen - und im Zweifelsfall den guten Tropfen nicht einfach kampflos den benachbarten Württembergern überlassen.

Esslinger Burg. Die Burg war eigentlich keine Burg sondern 'nur' ein Teil der umlaufenden Stadtmauer. Der Mauerabschnitt diente der Stadtbefestigung. Diese wurde zur besseren Verteidigung über den Berg gezogen. Von der Stadtmauer sind die Türme: Schelztorturm, Pliensauturm und Wolfstor erhalten. Weiterhin können Wehrgänge und Kasematten besichtigt werden. Von der Burg bietet sich ein schöner Blick auf die Stadt und das Tal.
