I usually don't give many points for neither IPA nor Swedish beers in general but this one from the island of Gotland was quite nice, could have it again easily!
(sitting by the computer going through the pictures of last weeks beer excursion to England :)
A bottle of Hercules Double IPA from Great Divide Brewing Co in Denver, Colorado, at Olympen in Oslo.
Hercules is a 9,1% abv double IPA that had a surprisingly mild hop aroma, I expected a bombshell of an IPA but this felt like a well matured and soft mannered beer. The taste, though, was huge with a rich and smooth mouthfeel. Hops are well integrated, not dominant, with rich - almost fruity - malt flavors. A surprisingly mild double IPA but a very delicious beer.
What I'm drinking tonight: Nothin new! Just Alabama's own Good People Brewing Company IPA. This time, It's at Railroad Park at a free outdoor concert event called Relax by the Tracks.
What's better than a beer and a bagel? I enjoyed this IPA while sitting outside Kornblatts on NW 23rd, people watching and eating the best bagel I've had since arriving in the Pacific Northwest.
Enough about the sad state of bagels in PDX, and onto the beer.
It's a fine IPA, with a well-rounded taste. The hoppiness is there fur us "hopheads" but it's not overwhelming by any stretch of the imagination. It's a very amber looking beer, which I believe comes from the malt, and in turn, gives it a nice, balanced taste.
A - Poured a very very clear, bright burnt orange amber. A nice about one inch head graced the top from the very beginning, this slowly faded to reveal just a film across the top. No significant side glass lacing on this one. Decent carbonation could be seen rising up from the bottom of the glass. Nice overall look.
A - Lots of piney citrus likes hops dominated the aroma. But the story was much more complex then that. Lots of balance was present as well. Some good earthy grains and sugar were also present and well represented. Nice balanced smell nothign really blowing you down in either direction.
T - Wonderful. For a strong Double IPA simply great. Super smooth with a delicate underlying malt layer. Lots of sweet orange peel and sugar, a hint of some grapefruit. Very nice fresh cut grass flavor as well. Alot more complex then your typical hop bomb. Very well crafted.
M - Decent carbonation led to a good mouthfeel. Nothing slick or oily.
D - Although the 9% abv by no means feels that strong, you can tell this was one that you just dont gulp down, for sure.
Overall This was a Great brew.
Phillips beloved Imperial IPA is a full-flavoured beast of a beer which inspired them to put a full-figured beast of an animal on the label. They bring you their original IPA’s big gnarly brother found beyond the cave of hypnos and up the River of Forgetfulness. It’s the same suds with some new duds.
Scorpion Double IPA is a 8% strong ale described as being “loaded with citrus hops and a huge malt backbone.” Tin Whistle should make this one available all year
(August 1, 2013) Ah yup.... it's finally here. National IPA Day at the Tavern. Which I consider the first day of the IPA Year. Happy New Year! Honest pours of Lonesome Shoe, Ipswich & Foolproof await.....

IPA is a style of beer originally developed for export to the East India company in the 18th Century, surviving the long sea voyages thanks to its high gravity and generous hop content. Joker has a fresh citrus aroma and bittersweet, full flavor to bring a smile to your face

Futbol - minus the use of hands - is everywhere in Rio... Just watching these kids is a humbling experience... They're that good.
Red Hook's mass produced IPA. Not sure if I have tried this before, but it definitely is a poor attempt at this style. The only thing really good about this beer is the beautiful orange-amber color it has. The aroma isn't anywhere near where it is supposed to be and while the flavor is bitter and hopped up it is a biting harsh bitterness that is not complimentary at all and a lame finish.
Red Hook has certainly gone down the tubes in terms of quality over the years. Sad.
