A bottle of Black IPA from Bierbrouwerij Emelisse in Kamperland, Netherlands, at Olympen in Oslo, Norway.

Emelisse Black IPA is an 8% abv black ipa. It poured dark brown, almost black color with a tan head. It sported a mild resiny hop aroma with hints of yeast. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with an oily texture. Flavor started out with a roasty note and a mild malt sweetness before the hop bitterness took over, living a long bitter aftertaste. I couldn't taste any fresh hops in it so perhaps the bottle was getting old. A bit boring for a black IPA.

A bottle of Færder IPA at Færder Mikrobryggeri in Tønsberg, Norway.

Færder IPA is a 6.5% abv and 70 IBU india pale ale hopped with centennial and cascade. It poured a hazy golden amber color with a fine white head. It smelled strongly of hops, typically resiny with fresh nettles. Mouthfeel was dry with a green, almost chewy, hop flavor, finishing fairly bitter. A bit too sharp (tannic?) and bitter for my taste. I think I would prefer a bit more malt in it, to balance the sharp hops, or perhaps just a bit more aging?

My ingredients for the KBH IPA brew: hops (Willamette and Cascade), some crystal malt for steeping, yeast (Wyeast British), and dry malt extract (DME). Then the scale for measuring and some hop and grain bags. I don't have my whole set up from the US so I can't do all-grain again yet. First time I've done extract brewing in a looong time.

I'm a big fan of British IPAs

Pseudo Sue IPA, brewed by Toppling Goliath Brewing Co., Decorah, Iowa.

I have been searching far and wide for this bad boy since Brett reviewed it. Finally CM has it in stock along with a very wide selection of Avery brews. According to the bottle this is Batch 3 of the beer. Brewed in Boulder, CO... now this is how you brew a beer Coors!!!

A - Red amber, rich creamy head, beautiful lacing

S - Oh. My. God. Yum.... must drink... hops, florals, citrus smells, malts...

T - Oh yeah, this one is good, better than good... It's almighty. Clearly this is what they are talking about when they say beer is the nectar of the gods! This has a mighty hops presence, but is balanced so well by the malts. Such character, great complexity. So many flavors just explode in your mouth. Nice hint of alcohol too, but not too much.

Overall I'd say that this could very well be one of the greatest IPAs or IIPAs or whatever the hell it is. I will most definitley go back to the store and buy another of these immediately. Price was close to $7.00, but c'mon you gotta pay good money when you are drinking liquid greatness.

This hoppy IPA is 80 IBUs and 6.5% alc/vol. Citra, Zythos and Falconer’s Flight hops combine to produce citrus, stone fruit and tropical flavours. The assertive bitterness of these hops is nicely balanced by medium bodied, fresh malt characters. Switchback IPA is a Pacific Northwest style IPA, which nicely contrasts the British style of the Beacon IPA of the Lighthouse Family.

Very good IPA from Penticton , in the Interior of BC

The back side label on the bottle of Herslev Økologisk IPA informs us that this beer is from batch 450 and was brewed with organically grown barley malt, hops and yeast..

The same but not quite....

Probably my favourite beer, a Brewdog Punk IPA. But one is alcohol free - and not too bad!

A: Pours a clear, orangey-copper body with a small, bubbly white head.

S: Aroma of caramel malts with an herbal, citrus hop presence.

T: Mild caramel malt flavor and sweetness. Zesty citrus hops and the taste of fresh herbs. A pinch more of those caramel malts reemerge for the overall bitter finish.

M: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Slight stickiness to the mouthfeel.

D: A fairly good IPA.

Serving type: can at Homebrew club meeting.

Golden red color with a light head. It's has a really fruity aroma with a hint of malt and hops. But it is a mild IPA. It's very good, but yet another session beer.

A nice, tasty pint of the house IPA, Tugboat Brewing, Portland OR.

Hoppy & fruity, pears and peaches maybe. Recommended.

£1.50 from Morrison's as part of their 4 beers for £6 offer. A bargain in this case I'd say.

It's an IPA. Nothing special. I mean... it has a twist cap. How special can it be?

It's a passable IPA with a slightly bitter, hoppy taste. It's not anything I'd go back to.
