At least that is what the can said. But it would appear that Sunday River Brewing messed up the labeling and this is actually one of their stout or porter brews. It was still good, but not an IPA.

The label on the back side of the bottle of BrewDog Hardcore IPA says:

This Imperial India Pale Ale Rocks... Hardcore!

But don't feel obliged to take our word for it, this little bottle has a grandiloquent story to tell.

2,204 malted Maris Otter grains gave all they had to offer the world to provide the robustly delicate toffee malt canvas for the ensuing epic.

4 Hop Cones willingly sacrificed themselves in fiery cauldron that is our brew kettle to ensure your mouth is left feeling punished and puckering for more.

9,900,000,000 yeast cells frantically fermented their little hearts out as the sugars were magically turned into alcohol in the dark depths of our fermentation tanks.

it holds true to the words on the bottle...it will ruin your palate, but in a good way.

the taste is pure hops and very bitter but it's a DIPA from Stone...what do you expect? you get a little bit of alchohol but its not overpowering. the same goes for the malt flavor, its in the background where it belongs.

this is a dang good brew that deserves the reputation it gets...

long shot double ipa

thank you sam'e' adams for holding the long shot competition

if memory serves, this d-ipa won just before the hop shortage and rather than compromise the recipe, Mr. McDole decided to wait out the storm and have his beer brewed as intended later.

well apparently now is the time... this d-ipa has 7 different types of hops... it's hoppy, but also super-balanced and smooth.. i think this is one of the best d-ipa's i've ever had...

I LOVE THIS ONE and would love to have more... sadly it came in a mixed 6er and the other offerings were good, but not great.

this beer was worth waiting for. Congrats to mike on the win and hooray for we who are lucky enough to find and drink it.

the internet says there are 100 ibu's in this one... i'm really surprised because it's so balanced.

double IPA, great divide

This is a great one too, but for almost different reasons.

not as smooth as the long shot... but more hop edge and a very full mouth feel.. it's just so goddamn tasty. I've had this one on tap at Pizzeria Paradiso, but the bottle rings true.

i £oh\/3$ it.

Where the long shot has all kid-safe rounded edges, the Divide is sharp... they are both great. I actually enjoyed having them one after the other, in either order (tonight happened to be long then herc). 85 ibus which i guess says alot for the malty side of a double ipa. as with all things.. life and beer are a web of complex relationships. lucky are we with the opportunity to enjoy them both.

each of these beers come in around 9% alc and they have huge flavor, i'm calling this one a draw, but i picked up a lagunitas correction ale that might be the king of the castle.

may your glasses always be the right prescription...full.

IPA from Wild Woods in Boulder, CO.

A bottle of Atlantic IPA Ale from BrewDog in Fraserburgh, Scotland, at The Rake, London.

According to BrewDog, the Atlantic IPA Ale is an 8,5% abv India Pale Ale that:

survived two months on the North Atlantic, involving a tense barrel-rescue-mission, beatings from force ten storms, 60 foot waves and encounters with killer whales. Upon safe return to dry land, the IPA was bottle conditioned.

The Atlantic IPA poured a light ruby red color with a big white head. A wonderful fruity aroma with notes of oak and even a little caramel. Mouthfeel was big, this is a rich IPA, with a nice carbonation from the bottle conditioning. Flavor starts out with sweet maltiness and some, almost barley wine like, grainy notes. Then the bitter hops kicks in to balance the rich malt. The oak was less noticeable in the taste than the aroma. A nice hoppy bitter aftertaste. All in all a very good IPA, though I think the great aroma promised more than the brew managed to deliver.

Margaret brought home a new beer to try out tonight. The Coronado Brewing Company Idiot IPA is pretty good. A little hoppy with a smooth finish. Tasty stuff!

Tour the Greene King Brewery and Taste the Beer!

Greene King has been brewing on site for over 200 years. See how real beer is produced using natural ingredients and traditional brewing methods. A tour around the historic working brewhouse includes the best view of Bury St Edmunds from the roof (weather permitting). Start at the museum, tour the brewery and then finish off with a tasting of different beers at the Greene King Brewery Tap.

Greene King's Westgate brewery is in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. It was established in 1799 by Benjamin Greene, the great-grandfather of the brothers Graham, Hugh and Raymond who have all gone on to become noteworthy in their respective fields of literature, television and mountaineering. There is a visitor centre next to the brewery, and tours can be arranged. The company also owns pubs and hotels including the Hungry Horse pub chain. Greene King dominates the pub scene in many parts of East Anglia with a large number of both urban and rural establishments. It also has a stand named after it at Ipswich Town's football ground, Portman Road. The company has won awards for its pubs in recent years, and Greene King IPA won the Gold award at the 2004 Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Great British Beer Festival in the Bitter category and runner-up in the Champion Beer Of Britain category.

The Widmer Brothers Full Nelson IPA is full of hoppy goodness... and alcohol.

This is a hophead dream beer, brewed from hops grown in Nelson, New Zealand (thus the name - or, it could be named after the wrestling move, as a mug of it makes one feel as if they're in the midst of a full nelsom slam!). You can taste the alcohol, but also sense some spicy, fruity flavors with a touch of caramel.

This was brewed specifically for the OBF.

The back side of the BrewDog Hårdkogt IPA carries a text similar to the Hardcore IPA but all in Danish:

The backside of the Punk IPA bottle, which is what sold it to me in the first place :-) How can you turn down a beer that states:

This is not a lowest common denominator beer.

This is an agressive beer. We don't care if you like it.

It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate the depth, character and quality of this premium craft brewed beer.

Just go back to drinking your mass marketed, bland, cheaply made watered down lager, and close the door behind you.

A nicely balanced IPA. Some citrus and floral scents. The taste can be described has having a definite malt flavor to start, followed by a strong hoppiness. Finishes slightly bitter, but overall clean. A very drinkable IPA.

Had this beer just before some chips arrived. Tasted terrible with chips. It was amazing the difference in taste before the chips and after. I found this issue with Stone IPA too. Definitely will have IPA's in the future, but will be very choosy as to which food to pair with them.

A velvety smooth IPA from Oregon. It has a great hoppy bite, with a nice malty tone.

India Pale Ale

Six different hop varieties contribute to the complex hop character of this beer. Profoundly hoppy with balanced bitterness, this is a classic American-style IPA.

Es una IPA elaborada con cuatro maltas y tres lúpulos diferentes. Siendo la que presenta más amargor de la colección.

Weighting in at just “only” 5.6% ABV, the Toasted Oak IPA is tripled-hopped and aged in oak for 41 days. It comes in a brown bottle but it pours out this pale gold color and smells exactly what you expect an IPA to smell like. It tastes like an IPA too, a fresh floral hoppiness with a hint of vanilla and sweetness, probably from the oak. It’s hard to really get more than a hint because the refreshing hoppiness is very forward.

McAuslan presents its New World take on the classic IPAs of the 19th-century England. In those days, the beers was brewed extra-strong and generously hopped to help it survive the long journey to India. Inspired by that history and today’s strong American IPAs, McAuslan has married Cascade and Chinook hops with a subtle blend of malts so that anyone who appreciates strong ale will love it. Hop bitterness and malt smoothness: it’s a journey your taste buds will enjoy time and again

At the end of the day, sometimes focus wanders...

This easily approachable IPA is light copper in colour and brewed with lightly kilned barley and rye malts. Numerous hop additions provide supple aromas of stone fruit and melon that finish with a crisp hop tang. While this beer is packed with flavour, it is light enough in body to be enjoyed with a wide range of dishes

Longwood IPA from Nanaimo on the left (dry-hopped cask ale, which contributes to its cloudiness) and Storm Hurricane IPA from Vancouver on the right. Part of the Cask Ale Sundays at The Whip.
