I used a long lens to photograph this long intermodal so we could see much of it down the tracks. The tracks, and the train, curve off to our right at the far end.
The high-rail truck is a MOW vehicle, parked to watch for falling rocks. The rocks on the right are normally fenced off from the tracks (like those on the left) but NS has been clearing brush and they temporarily removed the fence. This means a MOW worker must be staffed at the site at all times in case something breaks free and rolls down into the path of a train.

2ZAGAL locomotive roaring with the Eurasian intermodal train through the Unegt valley. Near this place more spectacular in late September and October for railfanning and photographing. Unfortunately, our railfanning tours do not often pass and staying this place. But we offers extra days, farther and interesting places to our customers who want to feel the Mongolian trains and landscape as long as they can ⛺️

A great spot in the Conrail days, Mexico PA, is still a fun spot to watch the Pittsburgh line. An EMD leader fights its way over Pennsylvania's hills.
An eastbound Union Pacific intermodal train passes milepost 550 west of Hermosa, Wyoming. The train is climbing the grades of Sherman Hill on the afternoon of September 24, 2003.

This picture dates back to a few years ago, when the "Lannutti" intermodal train, from Torino Orbassano to Charleroi, was still running along the Torino-Milano railway.
In this picture, taken on December 10th 2016, the train is seen near San Germano Vercellese, during a misty and cold morning, hauled by E633.238. The whole E633 group is now no more in service.

Due to a barge hitting the bridge at Decatur, AL there were a ton of reroutes across the south with most of them utilizing the Chattanooga and W&A Subs between Nashville and Atlanta. Here's rerouted Memphis to Savannah intermodal I125 (I925 reroute symbol) cruising through north Georgia near Kingston. It sure felt like old times watching a never ending parade of trains.
On the Malmbanan line near the Swedish/Norwegian border, you can get about a half dozen intermodal trains from roughly 8pm to 3am after the bulk of the ore trains and all of the passenger trains have operated. It's 9:19pm and the first westbound of the night rolls west near Søsterbekk, Norway.
The Norwegian side of the border is dotted with many summer homes as seen in the foreground.

7400' of double stacked, 53 foot domestics assigned to train Q CHISTO6 04L trade Chicago's bustling metropolis for the rural farmlands, wind turbines and grain elevators that dot the many miles of this bucolic Illinois landscape, seen here sprinting through small-town Ransom, milepost 79 of the Chillicothe Sub, still within the infant stages of their long, westward journey across the old Santa Fe Transcontinental to California. The front runner on this Sunday edition Chicago-Corwith to Stockton intermodal Q is C44-9W #987, which wears the short lived Heritage 1 livery from BNSF's original corporate image, conjured up following a September 1995 merger between both the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe and Burlington Northern railroads. This sharp looking H1 scheme features a large orange band running the length of each locomotive marked with company initials and flanked both above and below by thin yellow stripes and dark green paint, brought all together by BNSF's round "Wagon Wheel" logo adorned on the nose. Formerly relegated to trailing service only, the entire fleet of these 900, 1000, and 1100 series General Electric Dash 9's were all recently upgraded with the necessary PTC electrical equipment to become lead qualified out on the mainlines; Today's pictured 987 reaping such benefits.

NS 23M hustles over the Hilltop Road grade crossing on the third day of 2015. 23M was often first in what was then a considerable wave of morning trains on the Reading Line.
A massive intermodal cut for a future BNSF Z Train gets hauled out of Alliance Yard by a pair of unique ITSX EMDs in Haslet, TX. Leading is ITSX #2839, a former SP SD40T-2 downgraded from SD45 specs, and second is ITSX #4027, an EMD SD39. These intermodal terminal servicing crews regularly work around Alliance Yard throughout the day, with multiple sets assigned to intermodal or autorack duties. If you’d asked me what I’d expect to find when I first researched the DFW area before I moved out here, one of the last things I’d ever think I’d see was a tunnel motor taking the point of an intermodal train (7/1/23).
CN X187 makes its way by Garden Avenue in Brantford with CREX 1524 in the lead. CN 2235 was the mid train DPU with an air repeater boxcar on the tail end.
X187 is currently running as BIT (Brampton Intermodal Terminal) to Prince George BC via Chicago.

Southern Pacific AC4400CWs No. 295 and 139 pull an 84 car Roper to Denver Forwarder east into Spanish Fork Canyon near Gomex, Utah on Aug. 27, 1995.
UP YSPMP departs East Minneapolis behind four SD40Ns with intermodal and mixed freight bound for South Saint Paul.
With Precision Scheduled Railroading, traffic is frequently combined to reduce train starts and cost. This train was once the hotshot Burlington Northern train 4 pre-merger between South Seattle and Chicago. With PSR in place on BNSF, it now has a large slug of manifest on the head end and drags across the railroad at much less than expedited speed.
The only upside is the extra traffic on the train fills out Trinidad Loop in eastern Washington much better.
A 610-axle CN 106 heads east with grain up front, followed by the regular intermodal traffic. Power is CN 2238 and CN 2586 up front and CN 8964 mid-train.
On a mid October morning in 2007 CSX Diversity unit 699 leads an intermodal down through the cut at MP 128 on the Berkshire Sub. At the time these AC6000's ruled many of trains on the B&A.
The Western Pacific heritage locomotive and the "Spirit of the Union Pacific" team up to lead UP train IKCLB-26, approaching Terminal JCT on Main Track 1 of the UP KC Metro Sub next to Armstrong. This train spent a few hours stuck at Broadway as congestion around UP's 18th St. Yard had most of the KC Metro Sub clogged for some time. They got held up once more at Kaw Tower waiting on a train clear up at 18th St, and here, they're finally getting back underway, leaving town for good this time.
Both of these engines arrived at Kansas City the other day on an MASNP, the 1943 as the mid-train DPU and the 1983 as the DPU on the rear. They were both set out at Neff and fortunately put together to lead this Long Beach-bound intermodal. 10/26/24.
CN 5335 and CN 5441 pull CN L514 north through Royal Oak on the Holly Subdivision as it runs back to Flint from Moterm.
