Three NS locos, running elephant style, lead this intermodal freight down the Lurgan Branch on a sunny afternoon. Seen here crossing the Yellow Breeches Creek. A fisherman is seen on the right fishing for trout.

I used a long lens to photograph this long intermodal so we could see much of it down the tracks. The tracks, and the train, curve off to our right at the far end.
The high-rail truck is a MOW vehicle, parked to watch for falling rocks. The rocks on the right are normally fenced off from the tracks (like those on the left) but NS has been clearing brush and they temporarily removed the fence. This means a MOW worker must be staffed at the site at all times in case something breaks free and rolls down into the path of a train.

Nadat de Goldlok van TXL in een evenzo goud ochtendlicht kon worden gefotografeerd, viel het al snel stil met het goederenverkeer vanuit noordelijke richting. Zo hier en dan kwam er natuurlijk nog wel een Railjet of Eurocity voorbij en zelfs de Nightjet deed nog een duit in het zakje. Vanuit het zuiden kwamen wel een aantal goederentreinen voorbij, maar dit waren telkens treinen van DB Cargo of ÖBB en dus werd daarvan ook niet veel gemist. Gezien het winter was en dus de zon niet zo snel draaide hadden we voorlopig nog wel even de tijd hier en dus werd er maar op hoop van zege gewacht op wat komen ging. Ondertussen werden de meldingen in de gaten gehouden, want ter hoogte van Treuchtlingen werd de ene na de andere trein gemeld. Het was daar zo druk omdat het traject tussen Nürnberg en Regensburg gesloten was en dus alles haar weg moest vinden over Treuchtlingen. Normaliter rijden hierdoor ook een aantal treinen via Salzburg en deze komen dan ook langs ons in Hilperting. Helaas voor ons ging nagenoeg al het verkeer over Donauwörth en dus werd eigenlijk ook amper een gemelde trein daadwerkelijk gezien.
Na iets meer dan een uur wachten sprong het sein voor de zoveelste keer op groen, maar deze keer moest er geen geplande reizigerstrein komen, tijd voor cargo dus! Aangezien we vanuit de rug al een aantal keer ÖBB en DB Cargo hadden getroffen, was de kans aanzienlijk dat dit misschien ook wel een goederentrein zou zijn van een van deze twee firma's. Maar al gauw kwam er een witte neus de hoek om wat duidde op een Zebra van Lokomotion! Maar deze foto volgt later, want het wachten werd beloond. Nog eens driekwartier na de eerste Lokomotion kwam er opnieuw een witte neus de hoek om en kon er een tweede fraaie trein van Lokomotion geklikt worden die te vinden is op bovenstaande foto!
Het is inmiddels 9:32 als de multiple schakeling bestaande uit de Lokomotion 193 770 en Lokomotion 189 907 de Nederlanders passeert te Hilperting met intermodale trein 43123 vanuit München Ost naar Verona Quadrante Europa! Net als eigenlijk alle andere Zebra's waren deze twee exemplaren ook weer heerlijk schoon, iets waar Lokomotion toch wel erg goed in is!

Nog voordat Bayernbahn met de Henkelzug te Gambach passeerde, kwam TXL een uur eerder tweemaal kort achter elkaar voorbij met de welbekende intermodale treinen uit Verona. Beide treinen werden niet getrokken door een bont bestickerde Vectron of Smartron, maar beide keren waren het toch wel leuke tussendoortjes om even op de foto te zetten. De eerste trein werd verzekerd door de nog enige compleet blauwe Smartron bij TXL die mooi past bij de eveneens blauwe lucht.
De klok slaat 17:04 als de knalblauwe TXL 192 012 door de bocht te Gambach zeilt / glijdt / rolt / sijpelt (verzin wat leuks) met intermodale trein 40560 vanuit Verona Quadrante Europa naar het Deense Padborg. Niet veel later passeerde TXL nogmaals met een toch wel opmerkelijke Vectron die zich inmiddels niet meer in die staat van kleurstelling bevindt, maar die foto komt later online!

Due to 90049 bringing down the OHL at Channelsea whilst working 4M42, the North London Line was closed on Friday 7 October 2022 so intermodal traffic to and from the port was diverted away from London, including 4L89 04.10 Crewe Basford Hall - Felixstowe North.
66501 'Japan 2001' piloted 4L89 from Nuneaton where the train went on a diversion through Leicester, Peterborough, and Ely to reach Ipswich (and ultimately the port). 66501 is seen here crawling past Cattishall with 90048, 90045, 90010 and 90005 dead in train.

Op de zeer succesvolle avond van vrijdag 23 juli in Hammerstein kon ik onder andere voor het eerst een blauwe Hupac 193 van BLS Cargo op gevoelige plaat zetten waarmee ik uiteraard erg blij was. Echter kwam BLS Cargo vlak voor de passage van CFL nogmaals voorbij met een Vectron die nog miste in de collectie. Dit keer betrof het echter een 193'er waarvan ik niet zomaar verwacht had deze te treffen omdat ze zich maar zeer zelden nog in Duitsland of Nederland laat zien. Het betreft de 193 717 in haar "LWR" outfit die al een hele poos in dienst is bij BLS Cargo. Echter wordt de locomotief enkel op oproep gebruikt en dat gebeurd dan bijna alleen binnen Zwitserland, waardoor het een hele opgave is om haar buiten dit dure land te kunnen vereeuwigen. Persoonlijk vind ik het een van de meest fraaie kleurstellingen op een Vectron maar het feit dat er maar weinig foto's online komen van de betreffende loc en ze zich dus ook maar weinig laat zien, doet me soms het bestaan van dit exemplaar vergeten. Ik stond dan ook met een bek vol tanden te kijken toen ik deze loc voor m'n lens kreeg op deze bonus avond na ons tripje in het Maintal. Een betere afsluiting van deze week had ik me dan ook niet kunnen wensen!
Zo'n vijf minuten voor passage van CFL, waarvan we toen nog niet wisten dat ze daadwerkelijk zou passeren, sloot de overweg zich weer en toonde het sein richting het noorden een groen lampje. Hopend op CFL was de teleurstelling flink aanwezig toen er in de verte een zwarte 193'er opdoemde. Uiteraard werd wel de ladder opgeklommen, want wellicht was er iets van een stickertje aanwezig op de zijkant, en mocht dit niet het geval zijn werd het een archiefplaatje. Terwijl de trein steeds dichterbij kwam viel me op de zijkant van de neus een gele vlek op en vrijwel direct wist ik het en stond ik vol verbazing te kijken hoe mijn O zo gewilde 193'er in een heerlijk zonnig Hammerstein zou gaan passeren. Zo wordt na een luide "HATSAAA" om 18:24 de BLS Cargo 193 717 "LWR" met intermodale trein 43530 te Hammerstein vereeuwigd onderweg vanuit Novara Boschetto naar Zeebrugge Ramskapelle. Drie minuten later passeerde dan alsnog CFL met haar keteltrein naar Köln Eifeltor, maar opeens interesseerde me dat een stukje minder want ik had voor mijn doen zojuist wel een heel leuke verrassing gezien!

The morning fog still shrouds the Bethlehem blast furnace as NS 29G heads west. 29G is the old 21M, which runs from Croxton to Chicago. Although I've shot 21M dozens of times, this was my first since NS shuffled the symbols around.
Well, it's actually just a transfer job. CSXT 1152 leads intermodal cars destined for the FEC Bowden yard.
Winter rains have made the hills on Tehachapi Pass an emerald green as an eastbound (southbound) Union Pacific intermodal climbs the grade toward the Allard horseshoe at Bealville, California, on the morning of February 24, 2016. Three new UP GE ET44AC (ET44AH) locomotives power the Z train past maintenance-of-way working in the siding.

A solo Norfolk Southern C44-9W leads Memphis, TN - Atlanta, GA intermodal train I2N down Braswell Mountain between Rockmart and Dallas, GA.
Union Pacific 4853, 4445, 5048, and 5186 pull the ZDVSC 20 west through Henefer, Utah on October 20, 2010.
With an uncharacteristic mix of cars in tow, I'll take the SD60 leader on M346 as they start the climb up Byron Hill.

A westbound UP stack train was rolling into Cedar Rapids behind a pair of former Chicago and North Western C44-9Ws, a Union Pacific SD60M, and a standard cab SD60 in the winter of 1995.
The action was constant and varied at the time and you never knew what would come along next.
Santa Fe SD40-2 No. 5081 leads a hot intermodal eastbound across the Mississippi River at Niota, Illinois, on the morning of April 24, 1988. Part of Ft. Madison, Iowa can be seen in the background.
Due to a barge hitting the bridge at Decatur, AL there were a ton of reroutes across the south with most of them utilizing the Chattanooga and W&A Subs between Nashville and Atlanta. Here's rerouted Memphis to Savannah intermodal I125 (I925 reroute symbol) cruising through north Georgia near Kingston. It sure felt like old times watching a never ending parade of trains.

Hotshot intermodal NS 217 climbs the wall beside Ingleside Rd in Oakvale, Wv with a DC GEVO on point. The dash 9 trailing second had flames and smoke coming out all the way to Bluefield.

FEC GP40-2 431 and GP38-2 501 lead train 204 across the idyllic San Sebastian River on a pleasant morning in St. Augustine, Florida.
Just after nightfall eastbound intermodal NS 23G coasts down the hill in Shawsville with the Wabash heritage unit in command. On track 2 behind it is westbound intermodal NS 29G.
Only the 2nd time of doing this spot, here we see Freightliner locomotives 90013 (front) and 90043 (rear) head south through Wandel, Scotland with 4M11 from Coatbridge to Crewe Basford Hall on the evening of the 2/9/21.
Beginning its trek across the country to Seattle, Burlington Northern train 3 passes the old passenger station at Rochelle, Illinois, on the afternoon of May 16, 1992. BN EMD SD40-2 No. 7217 and a pair of LMX B39-8s power the westbound intermodal train.

On the Malmbanan line near the Swedish/Norwegian border, you can get about a half dozen intermodal trains from roughly 8pm to 3am after the bulk of the ore trains and all of the passenger trains have operated. It's 9:19pm and the first westbound of the night rolls west near Søsterbekk, Norway.
The Norwegian side of the border is dotted with many summer homes as seen in the foreground.
