PowerPoint 2007 joins its Office counterparts by featuring a brand-new interface, as well as a selection of new powerful presentation features. Instructor David Rivers explains each of its new features in detail, including an essential overview of the new interface, navigating a presentation, creating and editing presentations, working with tables and charts, importing and exporting data, and sharing presentations via various media. Exercise files accompany the tutorials.

The goal of this design investigation is to encourage an exploration into the possibilities with interface by "intervening in an existing interface to reconfigure the condition of contact." The "condition of contact" being the space between two entities and the way they interact.

The space that lies between ourselves and the natural world is our very own perception. Those perceptions that we are peering through, as an interface, control what we see, what we think and how we relate to the world around us. I am attempting to alter and play with the way an individual may perceive a scenic spot, interjecting in the interface between our minds and the world.

More specifically I am encouraging the individual to consider the world as art, the brushstrokes of nature and the beauty that encompasses. The large, transparent, smart tablet sign allows the viewer to capture those brushstrokes in their own unique way then deliver their masterpiece as a virtual postcard.

Art and utility—not necessarily a harmonious pairing. An essential element of artistic freedom is the right to think up and make things that are at first glance totally useless. Designers and technologists are the ones who helpfully intervene in human-machine coexistence. But only artistic confrontations that break out of the confines of practical considerations produce what is truly unexpected and really new. The eminently useful useless is thus the driving force behind the development of the works featured in this exhibition by Linz Art University’s Interface Cultures program.

Yes, I needed to look that word up...I think my router fits the definition: "the place or area at which different things meet and communicate with or affect each other"

Since 2004, Linz Art University has offered an “Interface Cultures” master’s degree program in which students learn scientific and, above all, artistic ways of working with all possible—and impossible—forms of communication with machines and devices. From the very outset, this program founded by Christa Sommerer (AT) and Laurent Mignonneau (FR) has offered students the opportunity to showcase their work in conjunction with Ars Electronica and thereby to reach very large audiences.

chipKIT uC32: Basic Microcontroller Board with Uno R3 Headers

The uC32 features a USB serial port interface for connection to the IDE and can be powered via USB or an external power supply. The board takes advantage of the powerful PIC32MX340F512 microcontroller, which features a 32-bit MIPS processor core running at 80 MHz, 512K of Flash program memory, and 32K of SRAM data memory.

The uC32 is easy to use and suitable for both beginners and advanced users experimenting with electronics and embedded control systems. It provides 42 I/O pins that support a number of peripheral functions, such as UART, SPI, I2C ports, and pulse-width modulated outputs. Twelve of the I/O pins can be used as analog inputs or as digital inputs and outputs.

chipKIT WiFi Shield: Add-on Board

The chipKIT WiFi Shield provides chipKIT microcontroller boards the ability to connect to and communicate with IEEE 802.11 compatible wireless networks. The WiFi Shield also provides a microSD card connector for use with microSD flash memory cards. The chipKIT MPIDE SD library can be used to read/write files stored on the microSD card.

Here's my washing, 4 buttons on the left, 3 controls poorly labeled. The buttons work as expected, but the other 3 controls work at random, their outcome is a bit like lotto, you really don't know what is going to happen. I think they tried to put 3 controls on this machine to make is simpler, worse still the setting are so close together on one dial it makes the machine very unusable. This machine drives me nuts. Next time you buy a washing machine dont be sold on features. Have a look at the controls, if you cannot figure it dont buy it. Look for simple controls hopefully with lights, my Fisher and Pykel washing machine has LED's to say what settings I have selected and how long the wash cycle will be. This way I know the machine I will do what I have told it.
