During a week spent in Chester in October 2018 I photographed Aintree Coachline of Maghull Alexander Dennis Enviro200 / ADL B29F 121 YX65RFN passing through the city centre.
Inter City livery Class 47, No 47843 passes Prescot Station with 14.22hrs Edinburgh to Liverpool Lime St I/C train. Taken from Kingsway road bridge but this view has now disappeared due to electrification. 13th May 1992.

Un regional procedente de la estación central de Frankfurt circulando dirección al aeropuerto con su locomotora de la clase 143 al frente.
Curioso como en Alemania todavía son muy comunes los coches de compartimentos, no solo en trenes regionales sino también en Internacionales como el caso de los trenes ALEX que conectan Munich con Praga.

The Mezquita is one of the most mesmerising buildings I have ever visited.
It was a mosque, first constructed in the 10th century, probably on the site of a Visigothic place of worship.
At that time, Cordoba, the capital of the emirate of Al-Andalus, was one of the biggest and most cosmopolitan cities in Europe.
It was then extended by various Islamic rulers before having a Catholic cathedral built in the middle of it when Christians conquered the emirate.
Today it is officially a cathedral, though its architecture, inside and out, shows clearly that it was conceived and built as a mosque.
It is regarded as one of the most outstanding Islamic buildings in the world.

» Ubicada a los pies del extinto castillo de Huelva, su fecha de construcción se data entre finales del siglo XII y principios del XIII y hasta 1515 fue la única parroquia de la capital onubense. Desde entonces muchos son los esfuerzos que se han hecho para la conservación de este edificio, uno de los más antiguos, si no el más, de la ciudad, declarado Bien de Interés Cultural en 1999.

Asentada en una de las zonas altas de la capital, el cabezo del Castillo o cabezo de San Pedro -uno de los nueve que los mapas antiguos decían que existían en la ciudad de Huelva-, se erige desde hace aproximadamente ocho siglos la Iglesia Mayor de San Pedro, la parroquia matriz de la ciudad.
Algunos autores han pensado y piensan que este edificio representativo de la arquitectura gótico-mudéjar, uno de los más antiguos, si no el más antiguo de la capital onubense, se asentaba sobre el solar de una mezquita. El principal argumento es, precisamente su ubicación, que tal y como cita Manuel Jesús Carrasco en su libro La Iglesia Mayor de San Pedro de Huelva. Historia de su fabrica, las iglesias edificadas tras la reconquista y primera repoblación solían situarse en la acrópolis, la parte más alta de la población, a las faldas del castillo.
Efectivamente había un Castillo en Huelva capital y San Pedro se encontraba situado a sus pies. Y también este mismo patrón constructivo se repite en otras localidades de la provincia como Aracena, Cumbres Mayores o Palos de la Frontera, entre otras.
Además, como también recoge Carrasco, en la obra del cronista árabe Abú-al-Himyari (1310) Kitab Ar-Raw al Milar (de finales del siglo XIII-principios del XIV) se describe Huelva diciendo “al Este de la Villa existe una gran iglesia venerada por los habitantes, quienes pretenden que en ella se contienen los restos de uno de los Apóstoles”. Esta es la referencia más antigua que hay a una iglesia en Huelva capital.
Sin embargo, Amador de los Ríos (1891) va más allá al afirmar que tanto el edificio musulmán como el católico estarían encima de un templo romano. Y es que se desconoce la fecha exacta de su construcción que se data, según De los Ríos entre los últimos años del siglo XII si fue mezquita y, si no, de los primeros del XIII.

Lo cierto es que es la iglesia más antigua de Huelva capital y que hasta 1515 fue la única parroquia. Bodas, bautizos, comuniones y exequias se han sucedido a lo largo de los aproximadamente ocho siglos de historia que contiene este edificio. Uno de los eventos históricos más célebres que se pueden mencionar fue el bautizo de la Reina de Portugal, Luisa Francisca Pérez de Guzmán, hija del Conde de Niebla, el 24 de octubre de 1613.
Además su historia está también vinculada a la de clérigos de renombre como Pedro de Lepe y Dorantes (1641-1700), obispo de Calahorra, una de las diócesis más grandes del norte de España o el beato Manuel González García, arcipreste de Huelva y obispo de Málaga y Palencia.

The first Power Car of the '43xxx' design High Speed Train, designed by Sir Kenneth Grange, number 43002 is painted in it's first original livery as applied by British Rail back in 1976. The Western Region power cars were designated the '253' Set numbers and stayed together as a set for a few years until maintenance and availability of Power Cars saw them, in the end, break away from Sets and became mixed in later years and the '253' Set numbers then were removed from the front of the Power Cars.
43002, painted as 253001 for the 40th Anniversary of the introduction of the HST, leads a standard rake of FGW coaches with 43069 on the rear heading west on the Down with 1B55 Paddington - Swansea.

Twilight at platform B, inter city departure and arrival area. When outside, tried to get a taxi to the night's destination. My two GPS devices say the place is 3.6 kms away. The paper map roughly indicates about 4.5 kms with the corners and turns. You know what the taxi driver said: "Very far, traffic jam, 45 Euros". Who are they fooling -- some rich and ignorant tourist? Too bad, I'm not rich nor ignorant. 45 Euros is bullshit. The driver did not want to use the meter. That's even more than the train fare from the city of Pisa to here and that's around 300 kms. Well, as the saying goes, every city has its rotten people. Rome is no exception.
Good thing that swindling taxi driver mentioned about traffic jam. Just took the subway for roughly 1 Euro.
